Houston or Baton Rouge area, anyone have a idea for a good source for 8v92TA Turbo? Would you buy new or used? What type of cost?

Thanks

John

Zeroclearance

John,  are you replacing a failed one or??

Do you know the A/R of the hot side turbine housing?

Post the tag information.

If you walk your turbo into a DD dealer the cost is usually around $2K for a factory Reman.

John, why drive to Houston or Baton Rouge Stewart and Stevenson has a place in Beaumont they charge less than a 1000 bucks for factory rebuilt with a 1 year warranty.
Let us know which turbo you have it should be a TV 8511 with A/R 139
John do not let anybody talk you into a China made replacement they are cheap and cheap made too

John,

Got your pm. Which way are you going home. I'm about 12 miles n. of I-10 (600 mile marker) off of FM 725. You should get a mirror and see if you can read the number on the back of the turbo. Maybe this 8511 would get you home. I'd be using on mine except it was to big as the inlet housing hit the gov. and wouldn't let it sit on the blower. my engine is a 440 hp with a TV 8101 turbo. I think the 8511 is for a 500 hp. If you decide to go on home and it quits give me a call and we'll see what we can do to get you going. Phone #830-six-two-five-1696.

John,

I didn't get a call so I guess you made a run for the house. I wanted to tell you I got my reman turbo from Diesel Specialists in Baton Rouge, La. Phone # 1-800-768-0742 and ask for Alan Hutson in parts. He charged me $732.06 for the TV-8101. You might want to send yours in for a rebuilt as it may be a little less. Luck!!

Also, if I am having to buy a new/rebuilt Turbo is there any difference in power or Better milage? I would very much be interested in the better milage option. Is this possible or do you just go back with the same one??

John

Richard,

Thank you for your help and input on the problem.
I made it home, pulled the turbo (I did not know the exact part # until I pulled it) and it is a  5102117. On the Diesel specialist site it shows as the same as yours, same price 732 with a 300 core charge (I cannot figure out if it is $732 - $300 = $432.
Did you have a core or was that a straight purchase? I will be in Baton Rouge on moneday so I will take my turbo and go and see Diesel Specialists.

Hi John,

Glad you made it home. The turbo was 732 + 300 core charge. They sent me the turbo for 1032, and then I sent them my old one and they deducted 300 from my credit card charge. Call them before you go!!!!!! They DO NOT have the turbo at their place of business. You give them your turbo, they send it to the rebuilder, he sends it to you.
