Detroit Problem

The oil consumption on my Detroit 6V92TA recently jumped to over a quart every 100 miles. The engine starts and runs fine with no noticeable difference in power. However, it now puts out a really big cloud of dark gray smoke when I start out from a stop. This tapers off as I accelerate and there is no noticeable smoke when the coach is at highway speed, but the consumption is such that there probably is some. I think I am getting more oil out of the slobber tubes, but the toad car does not have much, if any, more oil on it that it did before. It does seem to drip more oil when it is sitting.
Do these symptoms indicate any specific problem? We have some decisions to make and it would sure help if I knew what kind of a bill I was looking at to get it fixed.

Thanks for any help
