There is an old time product - that's been around for years - It's called "sound board" the other name is HOMASOTE - yep that gray colored board we make train layouts from - or used in high school as tack boards

It's compressed fiber products - that DOES NOT ABSORB water and come in 1/2 and 3/4" thick 4 x 8 sheets
