What do you look for to check remaining adjustment for Eagle torsilatics. I know the ride height tells you that they need to be adjusted but how can you tell if there is any more adjustment left? Goint to look at a couple of Eagles next week need the info. Thanks Rod

RWC, it is from the bottom where the lock nut is located on the adjustment rod, adjustment is not as important (you can always reindex), as the rubber bulging from the tubes if you have excess amount say 1 1/2 to 2 inches they are on their last go around.
Ride height should be in the 13 to 14 in range measuring from behind the front wheels and in front of boggies on a model 5 up  or 45 to 46 inches from the fender wells, also take a small 2 ton jack if you can jack the boggies up easy they need to be re index.
fwiw a 1/2 in adjustment will raise the bus 1 in or better depending on the shape of the torsilastic  good luck

Ps I passed through Roger's a couple of weeks ago why is that called the speed trap capital of Texas I have never saw a lawman in the many times I passed through at least 3 times a year

Rod,

Start with the steer axle. Look behind the steer tire and see the large stud and adjusting jam nut. If there is 3 inches of remaining thread sticking out then you have 6 inches of height adjustment left. 1 inch of thread equals 2 inches of ride height.

No threads on the tag, it is a little harder to do, but does not run out of threads. The tag gains 500lbs for each spline you move it and you need a special bottle jack to get it right. The manual says to do the tag first....

The drive is like the steer, except the bar has rod and jam nuts on each end of the torsion bar that have to be turned equally or you damage the bar. The threads and jam nut will show in front of and behind the drive axle. Same ratio, 1 inch of thread equals 2 inches ride height.

If the tag brakes are properly adjusted and the tires lock and smoke under hard braking then you will need to put some more weight on those tires.

Run the coach over a scale and stop 3 times for weights. The book shows a Model 10 empty weight as 7000 lbs steer, 6400 lbs tag and 15,100 lbs drive with a total empty weight of 28,500 lbs. If you are over 28,500 lbs then you can work out the appropriate ratios with a pencil to get an idea of what the coach may need for each axle to be close.

The book calls for 11 1/4 inches measured at the crossbar behind the steer tires and 11 inches at the cross bar in front of the tag axle, although I have found a slightly greater difference between the two  increases crosswind driveability.

Hi Rod, I won't add anything to the above, because it's spot on! Going to look at some Eagles huh, well it's about time! ;) Hope to see you at TBR 2009 in one of those birds! Where in TX?

Good Luck and if you need more help, ask away.

These are a couple of (I THINK) 05 Eagles located in Waco, TX. Look like they may be more rusted than I will be willing to deal with but I will take the trip anyway. Luvrbus Rogers is the the Speed trap capitol of Texas because you could not go through without someone getting a ticket. 1100 people and 8 cop cars. Somebody has to pay for them. Not as bad now as in past but still best to obey the limit. One cop we had said he can tell you are speeding by the sound of your tires he didn't need radar. This place has been speed trap since at least 1971 when I was stationed at Ft. Hood and went through here to Houston. Next time you come through stop and give me a holler Got 8 acres if you need a parking spot.
