Memorial weekend is for vets

I know this is OT, it can be moved at any point, I just wanted to take a moment and state the obvious, to all the vets here on the board I'd like to thank you for your service, without vets and the sacrifices that go with the territory this would not be the same country that we enjoy, this country is what it is because of those that put on the uniform and went off to risk death or dismemberment to ensure that Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness and our Flag still mean something, to ensure that we could find a job and keep part of what we earned, live where we want and for the most part, how we want, it ensures that our past vice presidents can take a pot shot at a lawyer and get away with it, and that a black man can be president.  Even with the many problems we face in these hard times, it is all still possible because of the guys that put on the uniform, we can wake up in the morning and are still free.  I feel badly for the many that didn't come home from war and for their families that miss them so terribly but where would we be now if they hadn't put on that uniform, I just wanted to take a moment and to thank all that went to do what had to be done, to do what nobody else could do, thank you for your service.

I couldn't agree more.  I was not eligble for military service due to my vision, but to all the vets, I want to say a big THANK YOU!!!

Jack, you've paid your dues over and over, the list of people that you've been a part of saving over the many years you spent responding to accident scenes, home calls or whenever a medical emergency arose and a a life was held in the balance, you were there, and even in retirement you're there for us, you deserve a thanks for that as well.  That goes for so many others here on the board too. We not only have vets here but first responders of all kinds, we're far better off because people like you are willing  to do what you do, for that I'm again thankful and in your debt, but this weekend the vets are first in line.

I am blind in my left eye...legally.  I wanted to go and kill Commies really bad so I needed to pass the physical.  As i sat in the chair waiting for the test I memorized the eye chart.  Being a stickler for honesty, I read the 20/20 line when asked to "read" the bottom line.  I was then asked "now whats on the bottom line?" after he blocked the good eye.  I told him "what was on the bottom line" to answer his specific question.  20/20 both.  Later I dashed all expectations of my having even a lick of sense and VOLUNTEERED for Viet Nam.  They rejected me or I would not be here to tell this tale cause people like me NEVER come back from combat.  Oh, to be young again.

I am a ex Commander of a VFW post and I also want to thank the vets for their service and sacrifice.  And to those gone or missing....You are not forgotten....EVER!

We are free to own and convert buses because brave people have put their life and safety on the line and served our country.  That makes it plenty on topic for me.

Thank you to every person who put on a miliary or civilian uniform of any kind and risked it all to protect and serve our country.  There is no greater love than for a person to give their life for another.

If I get over my cold by Monday I'll be walking in a Memorial Day procession on Monday like I have done just about every year since 1985 or so.  The procession goes to a local cemetary where there is a ceremony to honor those who died in defense of our country.

I agree, thanks to all of the Vets both serving and having served.. Without who our country would not be free.
I'll hoist my flag and say a few words for all of the military in harms way to stay safe.

Amen to the vets who gets a small faction of what they deserve to protect our country. Some of the vets came home with permanent problems and have to live with it.

I tried to be in the Air Force but I fail to qualify for the military due to being born with bi-neural hearing loss. They (screening test) kept me over night to a re-test to see if I was faking.

During & since WW-II, I felt being guilty and coward if I don't enlist because the vets sacrificed their life for me and every Americans.

I watch Victory at the Sea whenever I can.

I join all of you in thanking all our veterans.  I'm glad to be a small part of such a group.  That's something nobody can ever take away from me, even though I was just a kid, doing what I thought was right at the time.  It's been said before, but I'll say it again; I wouldn't want to repeat the experience, but I wouldn't take a million dollars for it! I'm thankful to live in the good ole' USA and to count all of you as friends!

I think you have not a single thing to be sorry for.  You play with the cards that God deals you.  You strike me as an exemplary citizen.  Thank you for your allegiance to us and our shared nation.  None of us ever served a single day to be able to judge our fellow men.  You tried....who can ask more?  Have a good memorial day.
