Just read another thread and it got me thinking ( kind of).  My 6-71 has a gear driven generator.  i have yet to get it to supply me with power as the regulator is messed up.  I had thought I would just modify to a belt drive system, but come to think of it I do have access to a bunch of scrap buses, it might be simpler to find a decent gear drive alt.....now here is the question.

Does the gear drive set up running alternators  on 8V-71 and 6V-71 (92s?) match that of the gear drive set up on a 6-71 that was running  a generator?
Seems like a bit of a Dallas question.
Thanks to one and all, Patrick.

I think any alternator off a 71 series will work. Don't know if a 92 series will work. You could get an accessory drive then add a 1 wire alternator. Here's a picture...
