What type of blinds are best?

Got some Christmas money and was wondering what type of interior blinds are best? Regular metal/plastic venetian or day/night fabric shades?

Would like something easy to clean and dependable. Of course privacy is important too!

Pros and cons please, your experience is important!

We've had both, we like the day/night shades best because they are quieter on the road and give us the option of see-thru window coverings or privacy, we originally had just regular blinds but those things rattled and swung back and forth and were just a plain headache, if you go with day/night shades be sure to go with good ones, good ones will last a long, long time, cheap ones you won't like and you'll be replacing and restringing them until you curse them lol, good ones will be trouble free almost forever, that what we've found.

Like Cody we have had both but we like the Venetian blinds the best. They are easier to clean but still a pain in the a$$. To stop the rattling I built window boxes around them

I've been doing some research this morning and found that if a string breaks on the day/night you are in trouble. I thought that it would be our choice but now I'm thinking different.

Building window boxes is something I've already done in the bedroom, so I'm good to go there. Just trying to please the banker! Cause the style and color in the LR is now topic of discussion!

Maybe simpler is better huh.

It seems that the quality of the strings is directly proportional to the quality of the shades lol. I had cheap ones and cursed them, got good ones now and no string problems.

Be bought standard cellular blinds (Graber brand) from Home Depot.  We got the double-cell variety, and we love them -- they are great insulators, and great for privacy.  We did not get the available full room-darkening, so we still get some daylight through them.

They are ordered to length, so you need to bring your measurements, and know which side you want the drawstring on.

Now that we've had them four years, I have to say I would never do anything else.

We have been fulltiming for 5 years and love our day/night blinds.   Have never had a problem with them.

I, kind of, second Sean's choice.  I used double cell cellular shades too but from an online source (select blinds.com).  The great advantage is their insulation value, something like r5.  I'm very pleased with them,  they do make the bus noticeably warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Re-stringing is not nearly as difficult as it seems. I snagged one string of my day=night blinds on a screw head and cut it before I noticed it. I called the company and complained and they sent me enough string to last the rest of my life!!

They are great but next time I'll get the double cellular ones for their better insulating value.

I appreciate the feedback as there are many ways to go. It's kinda like "Gee sure wish I would have done that" after you've already installed something and you are not happy. Just trying to keep the boss happy, know what I mean!

Paul, the cellular shades I think for a bus is the best way to go I have Day/Night as you know and I am in the process of changing to cellular the best price I ever found for new cords was 35.00 for each blind and with the cellulars they are quick and easy to do a new cord.one thing bad about a day/night shade if you leave a window open most of the time it will rip and I have help from the grandkids doing just that.check out the place Ace recommends  www.justblinds.com I have bought from them good folks to deal with and if you order now I am picking my shades up from there Tuesday    good luck

I must be missing something. The double cellular look like they are constructed just like the day/night, but without the two different shadings. What is the difference?
