I am looking for an air shutdown cylinder for an 8v71 as mine is leaking air. The local Detroit dealer says it should be electric and does not know what I am talking about.
Thank you,
Bob
You dont need a cylinder. Call Luke at US Coach in NJ. He has the seal for the piston inside. Real simple to clean and repair. Just need to remove the two allen screws and remove cap. Inside is a rod ( showing ) with a large nailhead with a groove that the seal fits over. Clean, replace seal reassemble and fixed.
Yes, call Luke in New Jersey - (856) 794-3104, he might have it or a rebuild kit. Detroit dealers will gladly sell you the electric version they use on newer stuff for $200+. I would not be surprised if they would charge $200+ to put it on. :o
Before you purchase a kit check the plunger and the housing if the plunger is worn and you feel groves buy a new cylinders 50 bucks from Detroit
Perfect! I will talk to Luke.
Thanks!

The one I got from Luke was a small fraction of that amount.
If it leaks, put out a few drops of air gun oil in the air fitting. If it still leaks, pack it with grease behind the plunger. If it STILL leaks, find a good used one. The dealer is a total rip off.
I paid $105.97 for the one I got last year from Luke.
I bought the little seal from Luke. Cleaned and inspected the cylinder, installed the little seal and reinstalled on coach.
My price today was
$128.40 list
$83.90 final + tax and shipping from Phoenix
They come in 3 different lengths the longest plunger was+ $8.10

That brings up a good question. With inflation, what is $280 in todays money? I've got a lot of parts and know what they were worth 15-20 years ago when I got them.

Geoff
Where have you been Geoff there is no inflation the government says there is none so it has to be true :-*
I know Detroit 2-stroke parts are 10x what they used to be because of low volume sales.
It's not necessarily low volume. Other mfgs. take over existing companies and jack up prices because they are exclusive supplier. Look at Onan.
Maybe China can buy the molds and start making all the old Detroit Diesel parts. After all, they're still popular where there's no EPA. The Chinese Clones are already taking over the world.
I can buy Isuzu heavy truck parts.
Cliff, the last time I looked, the market basket of goods that the government uses to determine inflation, didn't have any Detroit Diesel parts.👻
LOL friggn 8v92 liner kits from Detroit are almost $500.00 bucks ea now 4 grand for a set
