Title: GM 4108 Power Steering Return Line Filter Bottom Gasket
Post by: richard5933 on June 21, 2019, 10:02:05 AM
I noticed oil dripping from the bottom of my power steering return line filter. It appears to be coming from the bottom gasket on the magnetic drain plug. I did snug it up just a bit, but am afraid to tighten any more just yet. At least till I get more information.

First, I did contact Luke about the gasket. It is apparently no longer available. To be clear, we're not talking about the top gasket that goes between the canister and the mount at the top - we're talking about the gasket between the magnetic drain plug at the bottom and the bottom of the canister.

So, does anyone know what that gasket it made of? Fiber? Rubber? Copper? Any sources for a replacement?

My plan is to use this as an opportunity to service the filter and install a new top gasket as well, but I was hoping to have a replacement on hand for the drain plug gasket when I do so. According to the book it's 1/2" ID x 11/16" OD. I've found one in copper so far, but nothing made from fiber which is what it looks like to me from the little bit showing.

Any thoughts?

Go to a Napa type store and get an oil pan drain plug gasket. Most carry assortments of various sizes.

Does MCI have a current part number for the gasket?

11C-8-49 is upper gasket and the MCI parts book shows no gasket at the bottom bolt plug.
Plug filter head at bottom is 11-c-8-49
