BLANKET APOLOGY
First, I am still looking for a bus although after inspection, I fully expect to buy the bus in Tennessee. Before that inspection, one cheaper and better may still come along.
I am as tired of posting as you are of reading.
Lately, the confluence of lots of pressures and gotten to me, they are:
My eviction - they call everyday.
My truck having blown. Heck, I can't even go get groceries. I am working on that.
The continued search for a bus and research thereof.
The fact that a few members took my own words without understanding them and attacked me with them and got away with it.
Finally, the very egregious fact that I just had too much of the good wine and acted a complete fool.
Nothing can undo how I acted, as we all know. However, I take some solace that I am able to apologize rather than run and hide.
Ros
Hang in there. You will be renewed when you find that right bus !
LOL glad I don't drink wine
Hi, Hobie,
Thanks for your post, it means a lot.
What scares me is what will I become if it isn't the right bus. ;D ;D ;)

Hi, Clifford,
Thanks for your post, too.
This isn't the first time nor the last what I will show my xxx, unfortunately.
What is left of it, that is.

Its takes a big man to apologise. As one who has had occasion to offer many apologies I should know.
I'm no psychiatrist but it sounds like you are under a lot of stress Ros. When we are extremely stressed we often make bad decisions. Be careful what you get yourself into. You've pinned a lot of hope on this yet to be found bus. Those of us who own or have owned them know that they don't solve anything, they generally just create a whole new mess of trouble.
Hi, Bob,
Your words are comforting and dead on about the stress.
The good wine, unfortunately doesn't cure problems either, it just creates more, as we all know.
Getting a bus will not cure all of my problems but it will take one heck of a lot of the immediate stress off of me and I can concentrate on the new problems of a bus, if not too insurmountable.
Thanks.
Ros

It's apparently a male thing to offer solutions to problems, and a female thing to offer support and commiseration while not offering to solve the problem for the problemee. So we, as mostly if not all males, tend to offer specific and detailed advice as solutions to problems, and naturally, being male, we are invested in the complete correctness of our solution to the detriment of all others. So we tend to defend our position even in the presence of evidence that other solutions exist, that may even be better than ours... (nah, not possible... ::) ). Lets us focus on the bus questions, help with technical issues, and leave the evictions, blown up trucks and ham radio equipment to the side for now. I don't have a clue what the solutions to those problems are, although I wouldn't doubt that if I had to I could take a swing at them, but I do know a little about buses and one or two other things not germane to Ros' problems at all (unless he has an urgent need to tig weld some aluminium, or set up a formula race car, or maybe drive from Nova Scotia to Ontario and stop at the off-ramps with the best truck stops and restaurants...
I'm 100% convinced that buying a bus is a mistake. The burning question is - is it the best mistake, or the worst mistake, or somewhere in the middle? If life gives you lemons, make lemonade - but what if life didn't happen to give you any sugar? That lemonade is going to suck, big time. So I made the mistake and bought the bus, I'm still here and kicking. I don't have any reason not to think that Ros will buy a bus (big mistake) and turn it into the best, sweetest lemonade ever. Maybe it's exactly what he needs at this point, and getting the least objectionable one is exactly the right thing to do. Bonne chance, bon courage, drink the good wine first. but don't post after the wine... :o

Hi, Brian.
WHAT A HECK OF A POST! I like it.
Your use of similes and metaphors are entertaining and interesting.
I appreciate yours and everyone's candor. That shows that you really try to steer the newbie in the right direction. However, in this newbie's case, he is going to go full steam ahead with buying a bus because it appears, to me, that is truly the lesser of two evils. If (there's that word, again) I can just get 'the' bus into an rv yard, I will take sometime off, do nothing and recuperate.
I may even have more of the 'good wine' but hide my keyboard first. A vôtre santé
Luckily for me, life did, after all did give me some 'sugar'; I have a given talent for being resourceful and it has come to my aid many times. I am sure that I am going to have to conjure up that spirit very soon!
Thanks for the post, Brian.

Ros,
I am on the band wagon that doesn't think a bus is a good idea. However, considering you are set on it, I hope you find the perfect one! Like I said before, if you find one in the Kansas City area, that you need looked at, I will do that for you.
Of course, me being me, I went to try to find the thread that was getting interesting. I was travelling the last few days, so after I posted my popcorn gif (which I love doing) I didn't come back and check. Wishing I would have. Oh well.
I hope it all works out well for you.
John
Have you considered paying your rent? This will give you a clear conscious and more time to look for the right bus. I do not know the Texas laws but I do know the South Carolina laws a little bit. If you were renting here and stiffed your landlord they can take you to small claims court to collect the money plus expenses.
where do you get that he stiffed the landlord....
cheese and crackers people...the guy has asked you to share your expertise on buses....
he never asked to hear your opinions regarding his sanity or decision making abilitynor his psychological welfare or any other of your personal opinions about what you assume to be his character...smh.
try this ... for example...imagine if you will that maybe his wife died, he's heart broken and has been drug through the medical bankruptcy mill...
that he knows all of your thoughts and he's tired of listening to the same crap report.
if you can help with what he asks...then do it.
if you can't or don't want to...then don't....
Acccept his apology or don't... but why keep piling on ? .... I don't get it.
I know as well as I sit here there are plenty who have survived their bus decisions...and Ros will too.
I also know that there are some whose budgets were smaller and some whose were 100 x's greater...so what, Run what you got...that's what it's all about.
Y'all say whatever you got you can park it next to me.... I'm not feelin it...
In reality... I can think of at least a half dozen who should be apologizing to Ros...and I'm proud to say I'm not one of them...
Maybe ROS needs to make a offer on SCC's bus he has for sale he would lighten up whata you think >:( this needs to stop there is no reason for that comment
Ros,
The fact that you've been posting here and not on the Skoolie forum (that I also read) indicates that you are thinking about buying a "real" bus, as opposed to a school bus. The reality is that your dollars will go MUCH further if you buy a skoolie this time, then upgrade to something else later if/when your situation improves. For maybe $1500 you can get a sound school bus and use it as a tin tent, slowly converting it as you live in it. If you really want to see how thrifty ingenuity can produce a liveable bus for not much money, peruse the Skoolie forum - some folk there are converting a whole bus for what I've spent so far just for nuts & bolts and plumbing fittings!
Two other options - a cheap, well-used RV (but that would probably be just plain nasty), or a van or box truck that can make a good stealth camper. These days, lots of tradesmen's white vans, complete with company names and even ladders on the roof, are not what they seem from the outside!
Just an idea.
John
I give up.... uncle... ???
Thank you for your kind post, Bud.
Are you kidding me? May I assume that you know nothing about me? Because, if you knew a scintilla of what has gone before, you would know that you are way off-base.
However, I will not argue with you because it would be a waste of my time.

Thanks, John.
I appreciate your post but I am going ahead nevertheless.
You see, the thing is that no one on here knows more about my business, resources, trials, tribulations and so on EXCEPT me. I hardly know a thing about buses, yet. I promise that that is going to change and change quickly after I get a bus and it may be going to teach me some lessons that I don't like. Failures teach as much, if not more than successes. If the thing blows up, it blows up but my situation now is untenable and so I have to do what I have to do.
Regarding the disappearing posts; the moderators didn't feel that us adults could work this out among ourselves judging by the way it was going. That's fine but I vehemently disagree. I think that if left alone, folks would see who is who and the process of natural selection (I am not a Darwin man) would do as it has always done and resolve itself.
They are in charge and while I disagree, I have to dance to their music.
I think that I am going to get a bus in TN but if I do find one better in KS, I will let you know and take you up on your very kind offer.

Ros , don't know why you would look in tennessee or kansas as they (buses) are just down the road from us if you are looking to buy. Haven't seen what your budget is and these might be gone. . Craig's list (Deliverable with 175 Camping Hunting Worker Living Silver Eagle Bus - $8950 (San Antonio) also (1979 GMC 40' Bus Coach Conversion 4905 - $12000 (Killeen) ( 4107 GMC Bus - $5000 (Georgetown) Google is your friend my man.

Everyone shops different I went with a guy today that flew in from Texas to look at a bus here that I told ROS about but he passed on it, this fellow knew what he was looking for and how much he was going pay and what to expect for the price
The bus needs tires I like this he said what is difference in buying news tires now or buying a set down down the road in year or 2.
A few hrs of inspection and negotiations he left going to the airport in Vegas headed back home to TX a proud owner of a Eagle he is going to come back and pickup ROS has a bus out there some place ::)
Riteo, Clifford.
As I told you, I really did appreciate the lead and I talked with the seller and he and his son are great folks. It is just that he is in the desert and tires would have been astronomical to have someone come from another town and put them on. Also, the bus needed quite a bit of work on the inside and a refrigerator and something else. He would not come down on the price but, it wasn't a bad price either.
I hope that the buyer is very satisfied with it and had I gotten it and bougth new tires, I probably would have been as well.
I see your eyes rolling and I have to laugh at that. I am trying to do the best that I can and you do know that I intend to buy a bus in TN, right?
Got a call from the shop where my truck is and they said that the harmonic balancer was bad so they put a new one on and THEN DISCOVERED that the crankshaft was broken. I don't know why they had to change all fluids and filters and belt before they knew it was bad.
Now, I have to get a head gasket on the Mercedes before I can go get the bus.
You have really been helpful in pointing out buses. I am still looking up until the time I leave to get this bus in TN.

Hey Ros,
This is James from south GA. We talked on the phone the other day. I have been reading many of the post from everyone to you and back and forth. Just do what you feel is best. Everyone has different thoughts but only you know the path you want to head down. My bus is not fancy and yes I do have a few more bucks in it than your current budget. However, I have seen others have a decent bus, driving it and living in it for less than your budget. Is it going to compete with looks, safety, amenities, and etc, etc. that the high price buses cost? NO.
Not to bore you but...About a year after we had got our bus we decided to take it to Miami and visit the keys with our toad. When we arrived at the state park they had us parked next to a NEWELL. If you know anything about them you know they are very pricey. Funny thing though. The owner was just as interested in my 1982 MCI 9 as I was in his Newell. We had a great time talking buses. Also, my family and I had the discussion about the difference of cost of the two etc. Funny thing...I guarantee you that his family had no more fun than we did. Also we got there and back in our old 1981 even driving/sitting in Miami traffic. We had a blast. I also think that was the week my family truly fell in love with our bus. Even when I make comments about selling or swapping our bus they all say no they love our bus. Did I say it is not extremely nice. It is nice but very minimal with everything you need to camp. The coach had a basic conversion when I bought it and we have changed some things to what we want. The main thing is we maintain her and keep everything in working order. Sometimes it does make you crazy....but when you get behind the wheel and drive it for awhile and sit next to it with the family in the campground you can't beat it.
I know some of your troubles from our conversation and I say FWIW...Find a bus, get you a friend like a dog or cat and go make some new memories without the worries of that house etc... If you have problems with the bus..get it somewhere to either have someone else fix it or take your time fixing it in your own time. From what I can tell you won't be in a hurry to get from point a to point b anyway. Also once your rid of the house your budget will begin to go in the correct direction. Good luck with that.
I hope you find a bus and if I can ever help you let me know. You have my number so if you are ever around south GA give me a call and we can get together. Don't let the comments bother you. I had to take a break from reading this forum for awhile before because some people do get negative for whatever reason. Whether they begin trying to help or not I do not know. I do know you can find a wealth of info on here and most of these guys will bend over backwards to help you. It is a great place and I hope to meet many on this forum.
Best Wishes,
James
Hi, Muldoon,
I have to laugh, not at you but thinking about those buses that you mentioned.
I have seen everyone of them and driven one. The one for 12k won't even climb a slight hill in a subdivision. The one is San Antonio is a real rust bucket. I have lots and lots of pictures of it to prove it.
The 4107 is a shell and besides, it is 35 feet whereas I need 40 feet.
I have worn Google out. In fact, they called me and offered to pay half of the cost of a bus if I would just get off of their site and let it cool for awhile.
I do appreciate your looking out for me. Please forward anything that you may feel I should look at.
Thanks.

No, I haven't given any thought to a truck/bus.
I don't think that I would like to have one but I won't say no and will have to do some looking.
I appreciate the lead.

Hi, James and good to talk with you again.
I thank you for your encouraging post. Some positive support goes a long way.
Unfortunately, I no longer have your number. I turned on the computer today and found a virus had deleted all of my phone numbers, emails, passwords and a lot of bookmarks. Would you pm it to me again?
Very interesting about your bus and I am so looking forward to getting one and getting the heck out of Dodge. I intend to both live in it and travel some, too. I want to check and repair everything so that I, like you, can feel as confident as I can in going somewhere.
Regarding getting a friend, I already have the best friend on earth, she is a medium sized Doberman Pincer and I would do anything for her and likewise she. She is about ten years old and since my wife died, she sticks to me like glue. She is the sweetest, most gentle and friendly dog that I have ever had. I never had children so I brag on her like a child.
The bus in TN has just about everything that I want. I know my 'daughter' will love it, too.
Take care,
Ros
