Long for the days when Nimco had them for $1200. It is strange seeing people having to search for them.

Jim -

Did your coach belong to Bob Hamilton in upstate New York?

He's the only one I know of that had a '65 '06 which was originally purchased by Vermont Transit Company (in April of '65 as fleet number V-760.)

FWIW & HTH. . .

The one we have is a V731. Our understanding is you can convert it back to mechanical pretty easy.  We were thinking of replacing the V730 with the push button V731 at one point.

Bill Gerrie, who can be found on the BNO board, is very knowledgeable about the differences, and what is required, to switch between a v731 and a v730.

The 730 is basically a 3 speed 740 all the valves and clutches are the same in both and the 731 uses solenoids to direct the flow of oil same transimmion except for the valve body  fwiw

Switching to a V731 electronic will involve wiring and changing the shift pad. Granted the V731 will shift smoother, but the mechanical V730 is so reliable, I would keep it mechanical. I have the V730 and am very pleased with it. Just wish Allison had made a 4spd version. Good Luck, TomC

We had planned on the change to get rid of that shifter.  It seems like it would be easier to install the V731 with a wiring harness than a V730 with the sifter tower and shift cable to the rear. Like Clifford said, mechanically,  they are the same.

Yes, mechanically they are the same. I have the long cable shifter, and you get used to the play in it. The electronic sound good on paper, but have an electrical problem that requires towing and repair and all the savings go out the window. Stick with the mechanical. Good Luck, TomC

You do not need a cable for the V730, for example Bennett Controls has a very nice setup that only uses a toggle switch.

I'm the same as Jim-21yrs shifting a 13spd-don't want to shift anymore. Once you drive the bus with the Allison, you'll be kicking yourself wondering why you hadn't done the switch sooner. I switched my Kenworth truck conversion from the 13spd to Allison HT740. Good Luck, TomC
