Another good trip

I recently returned from a trip to Argonia, KS (near Wichita) where we attended a large rocket launch.

The bus performed admirably.  No issues with the drive train at all.  The trailer only had one working light, but we discovered a wire dragging at our destination and fixed it.  The trailer really needs to be rewired due to all the fixes over the years.

We got around 8 MPG on the first 600 mile leg of the trip.  I gave up on MPG calculations after the first tank because we used at least 100 hours of generator on the second tank.  I have yet to fill up after returning.

We had some issues with non-drivetrain parts of the bus.  Two A/Cs does not cut it when it is 101 degrees in the shade.  The front was unbearably warm due to all the glass and the larger area.  We need to get shades for the windows and windshield.  The second day we put blankets over the windshield and it helped, but it was also cooler.  I would add a third A/C unit if we were going camping in that type of heat regularly.  We also had a leak at the base of the bathroom sink and developed a leak in the shower trap on the way home.  (The cargo bay was too full to look at shower leak.)  We also had problems with the fridge not getting cold enough.

We desperately need storage inside the bus!  There are literally no cabinets and no shelving or counters anywhere in the bus except the bathroom vanity and the rear platform over the motor.  I am planning to get some secondhand cabinets for now.

I was hoping to take a little break from the bus before we leave again on the 23rd, but I will be working on the bus every night and weekend until we head out.

Gongrat's on your trip. You said, "We also had problems with the fridge not getting cold enough." We had problems with that for years when it was hot out. Even if the fridge works like it should the temp on the skin outside can restrict it's ability to cool. When we got an awning we discovered when the awning was out the fridge worked better. The shade on that side of the coach reduced the work required to cool the fridge. By coincidence we solved an expensive problem. If you don't have an awning you could use a pop up or tarp to see if it helps. Good luck...Cable

I have a household fridge so I don't think an awning will help.  This could certainly help an RV fridge with the cent against the outside wall.  My travel trailer had tons of problems with the fridge.  I finally found that fiberglass insulation had fallen into the vent.  I fixed that and also found that the thermistor was bad so it was running in emergency backup mode.
