I am traveling down to Falmouth on Cape Cod, and I am currently in Fort Wayne, Indiana

I have heard there is a few RV Surplus dealers around Elkhart, Indiana, does anyone know the names of them and if they are open on Sundays down here?

The only one open on Sunday is Bontragers in White Pigeon Mi.

Thanks for the information,

Looks like I will have to stop on the way back through.

I am looking for some furniture and finishing items is there any dealers better than the others?

In my opinion, Bontragers is the best.

Dont leave!! Stay an extra couple days. You are in Disneyland for the bus converter!!!!!! All there have good and bad points. All are very helpful, if you find one they will guide you to the others. If you do not see what you want  in funiture ask about having it made.

If you ain't part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

The best RV surplus place I found in Elkhart is RV Surplus Salvage.  I planned about half a day in Elkhart and ended up spending the whole day incuding getting kicked out of RV Surplus Salvage at closing time.  I bought all my tanks and several other items there.

I didn't find much in furniture that was very cheap.  Bontragers had some stuff, but not much.  RV Surplus has a huge room of furniture, but it is all new and fairly expensive.  I don't know if the stuff was new direct from the manufacturer or if it was stuff the RV manufacturers got and never unwrapped.

The number of RV Surplus places in Elkhart is way down.  I went in 2005 for two days using lists from the Internet and some places were closed, some had bad phone numbers, and some weren't RV surplus dealers.  I went back again in 2006 and one place had converted to a flea market, but the sign was still there.  Factory RV Surplus was only open one time over three days across two years.  They have been supposedly moving a block down the road, but RV Surplus said that coming soon sign had been there for six months.

You have to be careful with the streets in Elkhart as the one road that RV Surplus is on has multiple segments and I don't think the mapping software gets it right.  You probably want to call RV Surplus for directions.

I would go to Bontragers, RV Surplus, and Factory RV Surplus if they are actually open.  The rest are either gone or not worth it.

I'm at Bontragers right now but will be heading out today at some point lol, I don't think we'll be able to hit the bluegrass festival, got some problems at home we'll have to deal with, I may have to even lower the reserve on my son in law so I can get rid of him on ebay easier.  Just to give you an idea of what we've gotten here so far and how the prices stack up against the others, (keep in mind that I don't have any interest in the place or care where you shop or what you buy lol),  I bought 4 brand new Hehr thermopane tinted sliders with screens for 20 bucks each that will fit my bus, they have hundreds of windows here. I also bought a 90 inch sliding tray for my bay complete for 60 bucks, complete corian countertop with sink, dining table, end table tops and a bunch of other corian pieces that match for a total of 35 bucks.  They have warehouses full of stuff from furniture to p;umbing, to windows and doors to R&M caps and metal and sheets of fiberglass, they have warehouses full of stuff for pennies on the dollar and to make things nicer they have free RV parking with 30 amp power lol. I've been here for 3 days now.  I don't mean for this to sound like an advertisement, just telling you what I bought and how much it was for reference, we have piles of stuff in the bus I found, lol.

I would guess that many of these places will be over loaded with surplus items as more and more RV builders fall away.

Libby talked to some of the people that work here at Bontragers while I was crawling thru bins and piles lol, they are saying that they are having a hard time right now finding room for all they are bringing in because of the difference places that are closing their doors, right now is a great time to buy surplus but the catch is that once the stuff is sold it's going to be harder to replace, so the inventory is good now but that will change as more of the companies close down.
