I notice he covered up the upper windshield and small side windows.

Also, his method of up shifting from 1st to 2nd with him hitting the throttle a couple of times to get it into gear, just tells me he is just plainly not shifting fast enough.  I've driven a 4501, and you have to shift with double clutching rather fast.  Maybe the excessive play in the shifter with the long through makes that impossible to do.  At least he can get it down the road!  Good Luck, TomC

My guess is the bushings in the shifter bell-cranks are worn out. There are over a dozen . . . .

Then there is the response time of the clutch air assist - on one of mine there is what seems to be a rather long delay between releasing the clutch pedal & the clutch engaging.

Hard to imagine anything being worn out or needing adjustment on a 50 year old bus . . .     


The driver wasn't the owner. If I recall correctly, the owner (a widow) allowed him to drive it in exchange for getting it running.

BTW, the video is several years old.
