How do the gauges work on your buses?

I have digital gauges in this one.  I talked to the parts house and they could not find any in thier books that I could put in to replace these. 

I can not find the makers name or brand on these to check on replacement sensors either.  Things are so much easier when dealing with my old truck no computers not much wiring every thing is crude and simple.

They did not show any that had long enough leads to go from the engine to the dash?

digital gauges look great to me find out what brand they are and just buy new sending units people are using them in older buses to give it the modern look   look at the dokota site or the VDO site    there should be a name on the gauge somewhere    check with a hot rod shop in your area  fwiw

Most gauges should be able to be extended back to the engine with more wire.  The exceptions might be a turbo boost gauge and an EGT gauge.  With EGT gauges normally the wire can't be cut or extended.  There might remote senders for an EGT gauge, but EGT gauges are not common anyhow.  Some boost gauges use tubing back to gauge and that would be a pain in a bus.  They do make boost guages that have a sender at the engine.

I personally like digital gauges, but some like the analog look better, particularly in a classic bus.

A 1960s bus shouldn't have any computers in it.  What is computerized in yours?

Isspro makes pyrometers with tuned wires as long as 50ft (since pyrometers works on micro volts-resistance is critical).  Good Luck, TomC

What is computerized in yours?

Well I don't think there is any thing unless I put it there.  There might have been some kind of charging sustey but it got burn't with every thing else in the top of   the engine aera.

I will take some more of the gauges out and see if I can find a make on one of them and maybe I can find parts to make them work.

Your original post seemed to imply that your bus has computers.  You said you like working on your old truck more because of no computers.

Opps sorry about that.

This bus does not have computers but the engine in the back takes different gauges and sending units than I have ever had any thing to do with.  Most of the ones i have delt with had about 8 foot leads at most.

dont know how yours was originally wired but on my Eagle everything goes to a panel at the back above the engine. this holds all the relays etc and has terminal strips. the dash goes to a panel in the front with strips. in between is just a long harness of wires that connects the strips in the rear to the strips in the front. makes it easy to  make a new harness. if I recall when I made my new harness the only things that did not connect at the ends were the transmission related items and the fuel sender.
does it appear that the engine leads are connected directly to the dash? if so can you make up a panes with terminal strips so you can just run the dash wires back and then connect the engine to them?
as far as the gauges if you can post a pic or two of them someone may recognize them. Lauderdale
Speedometer in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida carries VDO among others and have always been real knowledgable and helpfull when I had gauge problems.
