There is a '64 4106 for sale on the Tejascoach site that looks like it could be a reasonable deal. I have no experience with the 4106 and would like a little info. It is a 8V71 with a 4 speed. If the bus is in reasonable mechanical condition, how would it perform in the mountains, especially climbing grades. Did these come with Jakes of were they all aftermarket add ons? Any thing particular to look for on these buses? Any and all help is greatly appreciated (as always).

performance:  Totally dependant on the condition and life left in the MILL.

If it will start and run It can be parted out for more than what they are asking for it.

All depends what you are looking for in performance.......it is not going to boogie up like a 500HP motor would, but will do better than a 446DT International or a 6-71.

unless your entire trip is uphill or if you are worried about your manhood and being passed by people......it should be a non issue.  Slow clibs really don't add up to much lost time when you add it all up in the end

Thanks. Didn't figure it to be a rocket, but the Wanderlodge climbed Raton pass at 20 MPH, I need a little more poop than that. Were these all naturally aspirated originally? D

not familiar with Raton Pass, but the 06 will likely outclimb a wanderlodge.

Certainly would do better than 20 on Cajon, Tejon, Vail, Donner which are all long steep grades.

GM never produced any Turbo Buses ( production/Highway) so yes all were NA engines

reddog;  I had a 4106 up in the hills of wv and found it to be very accomadating to the mountains.  I had to just watch when climbing up the hills of temps and not let it labor hard in a gear. It was better to keep her wound up than risk a hot engine.  I promise you it will out-pull and out- run wanderlodges. lol even up hill ;D

Gomer, Thanks for the input. I have always understood that the DDs didn't like being lugged. I suppose it is no surprise that just about anything will outrun a NA Wanderlodge. The standing joke was when climbing, you had Ma push and the kids shoo turtles out of the way.  D

Reddog
