Can you give me some details of the fuel system on my 8V92 DDEC? And the difference in the operation of my injectors verses mechanical. I'm in the process of converting or adding if you will the capability of running WVO. I will be running super clean oil run through 3 filters and a centrifuge. I'm heating my oil in the lines to 165 degrees at least trying for 180. I need to know the affects of heat if any on the DDEC or fuel system within. Also any effects on the electronic injectors. I need to better understand the fuel system operation before going any further.

First the difference between mui and ddec injectors is the electronics. The Injector still works the same in that the rocker arm depresses the  plunger to build pressure. The electric solenoid controls the pulse width or amount of fuel injected into the cylinder and the timing of the injection event. The fuel pumped by the fuel pump is used not only to power the engine but the majority of the fuel is circulated around the inside of the injector to cool and lubricate the injector, cool the head to a small amount and then returned to the tank. Run your wvo as cool as you can and still have it run effectively. To see the heat range of the fuel now I would buy a temp gauge with a 6' whip and after a long run just before you get fuel drop the gauge into the tank and see what the fuel temp is, then try not to run your wvo over that temp. (this measurement should be done at the hottest part of summer).Diesel fuel has 146,000-147,000 BTU per gallon. Wvo from what I have read has 118,000-120,00 BTU per gallon so You will see a drop in horse power of about 10-15 % and a drop in milage of around 11-18 %. You may want to contact your Detroit dealer and see if he would up the fuel rate some and see if Dallas would change out the hot housing on the turbo to a smaller one, after you have the system up and running, and you have several trips with it to work all the bugs out of the system. You can then check your millage to see if the changes made to the engine helped or not.

Thanks Don, That heps a lot. Hopefully I can pull your ear when you have some time and get some ideas and do's and don'ts in this conversion. Lot's of people have done non DDEC engines but this is a bit different. I have your # let me know when I could call you and pick your brain if interested. Thanks again

How goes it? Are you in your new shop yet and if so, where is it?

I find it amusing that a DD whiz like you is listed as a Jr Member and a DD dummy like me is listed as a Hero Member?? Something is haywire here!!

It is based entirely on number of posts to the board. Has nothing to do with technical ability.

FYI:

The address of the new shop is 6300 Seven Seas Avenue, Bakersfield 93308. We're still working on getting everything put away but the shop is functional if anyone needs anything. All the phone numbers are the same.
