Had bus serviced today

We are on our way south for the winter. We stopped at Southern Oregon Diesel in Roseburg Oregon to have the bus serviced. We arrived on Sunday Off to the side of the parking lot they have power and water available. They got us into the shop on Monday. They went through everthing. They did a very thorough safety inspection. I had two wheel seals that were leaking and one bad bearing. They also pointed out some other potential problems that they took care of. Everyone at the shop was great they put up with me looking over their shoulder for two days asking a thousand questions. The knowledge that I gained about my bus was worth the price out the door. I was surprised at the price, I expected the total to be twice what it was for all the parts and time spent. We can now continue south with a lot less worry.  I would highly recommend Southern Oregon Diesel to anyone that needs work done on the west coast.

Just curious...............

  Altho I am waaaaaay far away from OR. I was curious how it works with getting a bus serviced and it taking 2 days. Do you/can you also stay in it while they do their thing?? Do you get a hotel? I am DEFINITELY a DIY'er and would also like to "adjoin my self at the hip" to the mechanics to be able to know what to look/watch for.
  I have always considered having Luke do mine at some point and do the complete "once over", but was curious how it would work. I know, I should probably ask Luke.    He is the closest one I know of, but I was just curious how different shops do it.

  I hope you don't mind me "Hijacking your thread" a bit, but I was curious about other peoples experience and possibly a closer *good* shop to me (So. East Indiana) that would do a complete and thorough inspection.

SOD has a couple of parking slots out in the yard away from the shop with hookups. Anyone is welcome to spend the night or a few days there at no charge.

They also have two large bays that are semi-open. No front enclosure and as I recall the sides are open. These service bay roofs extend many feet so that once you are under the roof you are completely protected from the elements. Water and power is available here also. Possibly even satellite TV, but I do not remember for sure.

They also have several enclosed bays for service. Anytime I was there, I was always put in the open bay area and was free to go in and out of the bus as I desired. I spent nearly a week there one time. Mostly waiting for a new fan to arrive and then be installed. I had my toad and we visited all around the area and had our lawn chairs out in front and visited with the other nuts there for service. Had a great time. It is a fenced shop/lot with several acres fenced in and a main front gate that they close at about 10:00 as I recall.

All in all an enjoyable place to visit and great people to do business with.

At our shop we are set up so that you can stay in your vehicle if you choose.  We have electric, water and a dump station.  Good place to relax and enjoy the sounds of quiet while your bus is worked on.

  I guess maybe I'm "thick" but I did not realize you had a complete "shop" to get our bus's gone over. (silly me!  ) I guess I thought it was more of a place for your own needs. Good to know.

DML, Richard it been a while since you were at Southern Oregon that has changed complete new building and parking lot but they have a space outside the new building under cover that has electrical plugs where you can stay inside your bus they would move me out of the shop each night.Its hard to get him to work on buses now if they have a lot of work but good people

Yup, it's a complete shop, (mostly) We have a roof, walls, windows and even a bathroom.

Next week we plan on buying a new screwdriver and maybe even a used set of vice grips to go along with our crescent wrench and the hammer that has one horn missing from it's backside.
The big problem is to decide which screwdriver to get, Phillips or flat?

I know you all had some fun at the get together, but I kinda thought it was something more -shall we say- "informal".

WOW. Yes it has been several years since I was there. I had not heard of all the changes. The last time I was there it seemed that a majority of their business was buses. Geting harder and harder to find a good shop. Glad to hear that Dallas is maybe planning on a new crescent wrench also. LOL

I had my engine tuned at SOD last Nov. and came away really happy, better job than I hoped for and less money that I  planned.>>>Dan
