Hello Members,

I would like to take this time to Thank all of you for supporting this board and all of us moderators!
Together, we have created a wonderful place for  us to come to enjoy, laugh, ask questions, meet
new friends, and learn about our buses. Hat's off to you all!

This past week, I have received a couple letters from members that concerned me a bit and I saw
a hand full of members leave the board for one reason or another. Although we have over 1600
members now, anybody that leaves the board upsets me in one way or another. Without getting
into the subjects that caused this, I want to point out that this board is "home" to most folks that are
regulars here everyday. From my point of view, it looks to me that we call this board "Our Own" and
we sometimes get over protective of it. Even amongst eachother.. But, thats ok. we all are guilty
of doing this from time to time.

Let's not let things get to us so easily. We are one big Family and I don't know of any family that
doesn't have a fight from time to time..Lol. It's All Good....

The Holliday's are just around the corner and I want all of you to have the privilege of enjoying their
family, friends, Holliday's, [and bus friends]  to the fullest!

Thanks for listening

Good post Nick like you say when you get 1600 members in one spot the contests and arguments are going to take place its the human way.I was reading a post on the BNO about a air valve and the 4 in the discussion showed real class by not getting into battle over the topic and thats the way it should be

Lee Bradley

Getting into battles over topics is going to happen. If I post an answer on how to hook up the airlines to the air valve and I'm wrong, somebody is going to correct me (I hope). The problem is when the battle gets off the topic and about members. I don't have a problem with a member posting that 'According to the book or my experience the airlines have to be hooked up this way' but when the member posts 'That Lee is a #@$%@^ that doesn't know !##%%^@ about air valve and is going to get you killed and last year that #^^&$@# Lee posted .....' I could get upset (has never happened here). I have always enjoyed this board and the people here and the board's layout is great, thanks to all that work to keep it that way.

Now thats what i would call a battle but when someone try to guides you in the right direction on how to solve the problem you have i call that advice

Any time you have more than one person in a group, people are going to differ on what ever subject may come up, thats normal, the difference is in how the differing opinions are handled, that takes maturity.  I would feel that we could all discuss what ever we needed to talk out in an openminded way, I've made some good friends here on this board and hope that some view me as worth talking too.  If I ever get out of line, I would hope that someone would correct me in a civil and private way (as opposed to belting me with a frying pan like my wife does lol).  We're all adults here and share a common interest, this creates a bond that should be respected and nurtured.  I often find topics that I may not agree with, my chosen option is to move on to the next topic, but I realize that is sometimes hard to do.  To be a moderator on any board is at best, a difficult job and I appreciate the dedication that it takes to place yourself in the line of fire, sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, it'll be unpopular.  This is a small board, shared by an small group of people, I would hope that from time to time we could kid each other and share viewpoints but at the end of the day we could still be friends.  I rented this soapbox and have to get it back to the store now lol.

Right on Nick!

I've heard it's hard to respect others if you don't respect yourself. I try to respect anyone (especially busnuts) until they prove unworthy. Amazing how things said can be interpreted differently than intended. That is where a good discussion clarifies things. Yelling, throwing out insults & packing up & going home accomplishes little.

BUT, If someone wants to leave, that is their right. Their loss also, but I'm not so sure if it's our loss. ;D

For example-
BK & I had a little misunderstanding a while back - we stuck around & talked it thru. Now we know & respect each other ALOT better. I'd have missed out on a good friend if I had left in a huff.  ;D

Here's an idea;
If a topic goes south, I'd like the moderators to leave an appropriate closing message, lock it, & clean up the language only as necessary. It will soon work it's way in to history & those with 'bad' habits won't have a locked closet to hide their dirty laundry in.

Love it.

Generally if I can take a comment two ways; one that makes me happy and one that makes me mad, I will try to be happy.

Cody,

Who the he** are you calling an "adult"?  And that "maturity" comment was completely uncalled for. ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D

The moderators deserve a huge amt of credit.  The CAN"T skip over something to get to a topic that doesn't offend them and worse....they have to communicate with "ALL".  I couldn't do that job.  Thanks, guys.

I too think that a person leaving in a huff isn't all that bad a thing as their contribution would probably be jaded.  Don't want even a single soul to leave though, mind you.

Thanks, Nick. I appreciate all that you and the other mods do. It's much more work than most would imagine and for ya'll to have the time, ability and inclination to do this important work, please know it's respected and appreciated.

I too, am amazed sometimes by the little snits that go on. Man, we all got bigger things to do!

The only consolation is that these boards are tame compared to some of the hardcore computer boards. Serious flame wars are a way of life for them. So by and large there's not a whole lot of commotion here.

PS: I'm getting less mature by the year and I'm bothered because it doesn't bother me! :)

Danny

This board has been invaluable for me in the process of building the bus.  I would have had a very difficult time getting the information and support to do this without you guys.  People will always have their little spats - I don't mind people voicing their opinions as long as they allow me the same opportunity.

Thanks

Danny
I have heard it said, "life comes at you fast".  I didn't know it would be in the shape of a bus  :-)

John, I reread my post and I was certain I had deleted the reference to maturity and the thing about us being adults lol.  As I get older my mind slips more and more, I think I remember being an adult but that was a while back lol. I apologize for the confusion I created and always remember, expiring minds want to know lol.

gus

The really good part about the board is that if any of use post bum dope it is a certainty that we will be corrected post haste, and that is a good thing.

I've been corrected a few times lately and I appreciate it because that could have kept some innocent reader from thinking I knew what I was saying!

It is up to the reader to decide just what advice he wants to accept and which to ignore

If any of us have our advice rejected we should not be insulted.

It is only advice and ii is free anyway!

If some guy posts something we disagree with then we can post whatever we think is better but it serves no purpose to call the other guy a dummy-or worse.

A disagreement is not a personal insult.

As a younger busnut and one who is trying to build a bus on a tight budget, I have found the site and its moderators invaluable. I cannot fathom trying this without the help of many on this board. I appreciate the diversity of opinions and find that when a topic becomes OT or "hot" I simply move to a new topic.

Thanks to all of you who take time to share your lessons learned. I could not do it without you!

Jes, Louise! People are going to come and go and with 1600+ Members it's understandable that it can happen.  Lord-a-Mercy, there's only 100 Members of the Senate, 457 (someone will correct that number) in the Congress and they can't agree on a darned thing!

NO, I don't want to get political..........

I'm one of the older members, although I give a tip of the hat to those older, and I withdrew my membership at one time because I felt I made a comment which should have upset another Member...a great guy who I had not met personally...and he was much more of a gentleman than me because he shrugged it off as he would have done with dandruff.  But I felt that, in a flippant moment, he didn't deserve my comment. Apology offered, accepted, and fences mended and we're friends.

Others have made me angry but the measure of a man is not how much he can give in anger but how much he can tolerate without losing his indentity.

I know one person in our ranks for whom I have the utmost respect, and while there are many, this one individual stands head and shoulders above most. I won't mention his name but we all know him.  I hope that each of you think I'm talking about you.

He is without peer when it comes to understanding and tolerance. He is the most knowledgable person I know about buses and their inherent faults. Yet he keeps a smile on his face and an open ear to all who will ask of him and quietly offer his best advice.

I've seen him quietly ignore criticism of others and draw them to him while others would hold them at arms' length.

Wouldn't it be a great world if we could all do our best to be like the gentleman I'm speaking about?

Let's just try......

Bob
