I read on the Detroit page where the new DD15 the replacement for the 60 series is going to hit the market in spring of 2008 so let the re powers begin.

Yeah like there are going to be lterally thousands of abandoned 60 Series engines left lying on the sides of the road the instant the new ones come out! LOL!
Look how many 2 strokes are still being used! LOL!
They will be around alot longer than 1 might think!

The Series 60 is a million mile engine, with ease.
I agree with BK.  8)

BK, your right i was talking about engine swaps for the  people that have to go with any thing new like the DD15 in their bus I know one Eagle owner that will proably swap if he can get one.

Very impressive stats. Quite a power band they show. Tom C must know something about them for Freightliner 2008. It would probably cost more than I've got in our coach so far.  ;)  That's all I need is to have more power and go faster, better have good braking power. If anyone has a 60 they want to discard for the 15 let me know...Just kidding....I think I'll stick with 71.

Sammy, you need to enjoy your 60s in the Prevost because i read were the Volvo engine is a option in the 2008 and standard in the 2009 and if they haven't made a lot of improvements on their engines you will be busy

Yes the DD15 will be in our books next month to order in the first quarter of '08.  It is an impressive engine that has been seriously reinforced to run a higher compression ratio (more efficient) and has compound turboing.  Picture a normal turbo, then about 6 inches behind the turbo on the exhaust side is another turbo-just the exhaust side that the exhaust goes through and spins a turbine that is directly connected through gearing to the engine for another "free" 50hp at max throttle.

With the necessity of the exhaust catalyst and particulate trap with the DD15, it is highly unlikely that you'll see that engine available for swap into an older vehicle for some time.  My suggestion is to look for a 1998 EPA rated Series 60 engine (were the best fuel mileage engines) of which you can get a factory rebuild.  The DD15 will only be available in new vehicles for the foreseeable future (of course if you happen to get a wrecked truck with one in it...)  Good Luck, TomC

The DD15 is going to made in 3 different displacements the 12.8 to replace the MBE 4000 engine 14.8 to replace the 60 series and a new 15.6 for the big guys who use Cat C15 and C 16

I personally would not consider a repower with anything that was not designed to operate on ULSD and/or Bio-D - FWIW
