Major air fittings and teflon, sealants.....?

I found a small leak from the passenger front air brake chamber fitting. The fitting screws into the brake cannister. It was loose and leaking air. I got underneath and removed the air line and the fitting. Now, I want to clean the fitting and then tighten things back up. It appears that the shop has used some type of thread sealant.  Any body out there have suggestions of what I can begin to use whenever I am replacing a major air fitting? I am not sure tape Teflon would work on these big fittings. How about liquid Teflon?  This is not a compression fitting.

Thanks

Teflon tape or liquid teflon will be fine. Don't use any on the compression side of the fitting, only the pipe thread side.  8)

Teflon tape will work but always at the risk of getting some tape residue into a valve. Non-hardening pipe sealant is readily available and preferable to tape. Do not place any sealant closer to the end of the fitting than the second thread.
