Today I needed to fire up the beast and back her up just a bit so I could load some wood into her.
As I sat there looking out my side window over the 6'3" fence into my neighbors yards and released the brake and began rolling it all came to me why I got my bus. I had to do the Home Improvement show caveman grunt as I backed her up.
Someday I'll even get to drive her out on the open road again.

Still, whenever I read a post about someone breaking down somewhere I begin to wonder again, just what the hell am I doing?

Re breakdowns on the road...i'm a newbie at the bus thing but an old hand at driving old vehicles.  I actually enjoy the suspense/challenge/adventure/trials/tribulations of driving an old vehicle.  That feeling of "HA! I fixed IT"  etc....
Oh  I just realized I'm not such a newbie at buses.  I used to tour US and Canada with the band I was in, we had a '69 (?) (International schoolie) that I repaired, maintained and drove.  I also drove a schoolie through mexico one year.  So I guess that's where the bug began, it's been growing ever since, and driving up the mex/us coast in a 60's 4905 didn't help.  That's whwn I decided I liked the rear engine/ air suspension up way more.  So to re why have a bus?  because it's fun.
