I'm about to start reassembling the cooling system on my 8V-71.  I have new gaskets for the thermostat covers and for the water outlet on the oil cooler.  Are these gaskets put on dry or is some sort of gasket sealer used?  Also, how about the bolts that hold these parts on?  Is something like Loctite used to keep things from loosening?  If so, which type?  Thanks for any suggestions or tips.

Hi  David,

I always use copper coat to seal/hold gaskets in place. I'm not sure about the use of RTV and which one to use.

Lock-tight is good. An Anit sieze compound would be better.

Good Luck
