Air Conditioner Quit

I have an older Coleman roof top air conditioner that quit. There appears to be power going to the fan and the fan turns freely but it doesn't work.

Any ideas??

Tis the season for A/C units to quit.  Mine was the first, now I believe I have counted 3 now 4.

I just replaced mine, as the board suggested....

Nick, nothing works. I checked at the switch with my voltmeter and there was 110. Then I checked on the wires going into the motor and there is 110 there as well. Not sure what else I can check.

Does your compressor still work? Is it only the blower motor not working? The easiest way to trouble shoot is to divide and conquer. If you are a DIY person a blower motor might be doable. A bad compressor is not worth it.

Hi Fred,

Always start at the source. The selector switch would be first thing to test.  "When in doubt, Jump it out" or just use a volt meter....lol

The selector switch distributes power to the fan and compressor.

Second, would be thr T-stat.

Well, after a few days of off and on troubleshooting I finally found my problem. The neutral wire had come loose in the electrical box.

What confused me was that I was getting a voltage reading of 110 volts at the unit but I guess this was due to the hot wire still connected. Anyway I disconnected the hot ands neutral leads and found NO POWER at all. Then I hooked the air conditioner directly to a wall plug and it worked so that told me the problem was in the supply line and as luck would have it, a simple loose wire.

Hi Fred,

Please go through all your connections in your panel if you have home wireing in your bus.

I have Syl Szcusko at my shop with electrical problems and Syl 's panel burnt up almost causing his

bus to burn down. His nutral bar melted completely...... from loose connections in the breaker panel.

This is why I stress....using marine stranded wire for our busses! Solid copper is too soft to stand up

to the movement of our busses. the slightest movement will cause is to come loose. The nutral bar pulls as many amps as the hot legs.......
