I have the 3 starting batteries in a new compartment closer to the engine. They have their own cutt off switch. I want to put a deep cycle battery in the old compartment. My coach is mostly 12 volt and I don't have an inverter. This deep cycle battery would be in parrallel with the 3 starting batteries, however, when I disconnect the starting batteries the coach would continue to draw off the deep cycle.Of course when I went to start the deep cycle would work along with the starting batteries.

Is there a drawback to this setup.

Thanks

Fred,

I would add a 12 vdc charger for the one house battery.

This way you can keep it charged while on shore power.

Or get a 110 to 12vdc converter to supply your 12 vdc needs when on shore power.

It really is going to depend on how You use the 12 vdc.

I have a 110 to 12 v converter and also a 12 v charger. What I'm wondering about is it ok to charge the deep cycle battery along with the start batteries going down the road?

Thanks

Our coach is 24 volt so we could not use the coach batteries to supplement the house setup. we have an auxiliary 12 volt alternator installed where the bus A/C compressor used to be. there is a 12 Volt continuous duty solenoid installed between the alt & the house batts and controlled from the drivers console. I can switch it on when I am driving & not using the 110 V Onan. I works very nicely. I usually don't have to use the Onan very much in the winter.
