If it is in the slobber tubes, it could be the bottom O ring leaking, or it could be either a cracked or heavily pitted cylinder wall.  Whichever way, I HIGHLY recommend you take it apart and see where it is leaking before departing on a trip.  Far easier and cheaper to fix it now, rather than possibly having coolant in the oil and have the crankshaft spin a bearing ($$$).  Personally-while you have it open, I would install new cylinder kits all around and send the heads out for a valve job and crack check.  Possibly exchange the injectors, if it is smoking now.  If you're going to keep the bus for awhile, you might as well do it now, rather than later somewhere on the road.  Good Luck, TomC

Jim, I think you can pull the pan and if its a liner, you can see where its coming from and it will drip in your face. If its dripping above the top of the block line, you should be able to see which head to pull.

I don't see any reason to fool with the liners unless one or more is scored. If its above the block line it will sure be cheaper to fix. There is a chance it just needs a gasket. If you chase the leak and pull off a head you can examine the gaskets and see where it either does or does not leak. If it cracked a head it will put compression into the water every time the piston comes up. The compression air will displace the water real fast and push it out the overflow if its a head.

If its a liner I would take my chances with a used engine that I could get a history on.

Jim, your in the right place if water is coming from above the ports on the outside its orings if water is coming from out of the ports into the air box then its a injector tube, head gasket or cracked head  let us know and good luck
