In-motion Sat revisited

I know this topic has been discussed alot, but technology changes so often I am hoping we can get some new insights and opinions.

I am real close to pulling the trigger on either the KVH R5/6 or the TracStar SV360.  A couple of questions for those in the know:

1.)  Is the R6 worth the extra money as compared to the R5??  Is the A7 technology alot better than both (I dont care about the low-profile aspect)

2.)  I have read where most of the entertainer coaches and the high-end bus converters choose TracStar, is that still the case, and does anyone have more details as to why they choose TracStar??

3.)  Gosh darn this stuff is really expensive, in your experience does the ease of use really make up for the extra costs??

JT,
I am not current on the lastest units, however if they are better performers than my KVH Trac 3, I do not know how they could have improved the unit. Mine is flawless, Only fault would be going under an underpass there is a 2 - 3 second delay to read the satellite and regain picture. I understand other brands are much slower in realigning the satellite, and slower to restore the picture.

Hi JT,

I personally think the newer units are worth the expence for the ease of use.

I'm not into the compass and set-up thing, kinda primative for me....lol

Question for Nick - do you still feel the A7 is the best out there??  Did they fix the problem with the water pooling on the top making it lose reception??

Anyone with a TracStar out there want to share their opinions??

I'm concerned about buying right now because there are new sats comming on line and I want them.  I think they will be mostly HD. Also have found some interesting info about free to air TV boxes and may want that capability  as I used to get a lot of backhauls with my big dish that were interesting.

Hi JT,

Yes, because they are well ahead of all the comp in the tech dept. They are allready HD ready and local channels are able to travel with you,
the option of internet, and phone calls are all in one package. Thats the future! and it's out there in the A-7. As far as pooling and rain fade,
the A-7 can still recieve signal with 5" of snow on it, and all brands of antenna's have signal fade in heavy rain storms. I made the mistake in buying
the L-3 a year and a half ago, and im sorry that I couldn't afford the A-6 at the time because the "A" series can be upgraded as where the "L"
series and other brands can not!

What does the A7 cost?  is it likely to come down anytime soon?  You said the magic words, internet access?  how does that work and how much?  Having internet is the killer app for me ( the thing that will motivate me to buy one).

Very nice antenna, but I didn't see anything about internet access with it. Altough pricey, it does look like the best one out there.

Internet Satellite for RV's is either motosat or Ground control or Dustyfoot.  i don't want to make this a commercial, but we sell, install and service all three.  www.manasst.com
