Anyone know anything about a series 40 detroit? I see it mentioned once in a while but I have never seen any discussion about it.

The Series 40 is an International DT466 engine made for Detroit.  It is not a true Detroit engine.

Wayne,

I don't know much about the Series 40 in buses, but I did operate a few in TopKick and Kodiak trucks.

I hope I never have to do it again.

Ours were vastly underpowered, vibrated fiercley when idling, were prone to air intake leaks.

It was a real joy to be loading under a front end loader and have the air intake start leaking between the turbo and the manifold. You couldn't pull away and the smoke cleared out the mosquitos for at least a half mile in any direction.

Others may have had better luck than I did, but to me those engines rank right up there with the aluminum V-8 Rambler put out for a short time.

I know lots of people who like the DT466 very much.  The biggest problem is probably companies who spec them as low as 190 HP when they can be ordered with much more power.  I personally would not want one in a bus as they don't have enough power.
