Hi Sanger.  Welcome to the board

This subject comes up once in a while and the installation process seems to be different for different buses.  I know that the Eagle windshields have to be "roped" in.  I have the process documented (from someones post) somewhere in my electronic files.

You will need to post the make and model of the bus you are working on, and then someone will help you.  If it is an Eagle, I will poke around my files and post the process.

Procedure may be different for GMs but for my Prevost I called a glass shop.   ;D

The last thing I would ever want to do is hurt you.
Its the last thing but its still on the list.

If you don't have a Maint Manual get one, it gives a good step by step description of all glass installation.

Hi Tekebird,
I had both windshields and rubber replaced three years ago by the local glass company. The glass came from the glass company and the rubber came from US Coach. Two years ago we had a stone hit and break the drivers windshield. The same glass company replaced just the glass the second time. I watched the installation both times and the installer used a sealer in both the inner and outer grooves in the rubber. There were no leaks after either installation, so if the rubber is still supple I see no reason not to reuse the rubber, along with a good sealant.
Thanks, Sam 4106

Tekebird: I have a Prevost and have changed my own windshields with little problems. Since installing new rubbers about 5 years ago,I have put three new windshields not using any sealant and no leaks. I was told by a glass company no sealant was needed because of the locking system that holds the windshield in.

sure there is a chance thatn you will not have leaks..... but after using sealant I would think your chances are higher as it is not uniform any longer.

last rubber I got was 75.00...small price for insurance against leak.

Just my opinion

I'll call luke at us coach, previous owners hooked me up with him and he's been great. thanks. we need to get them in and the bus inspected by friday! thanks tekebird. I am sure they are right about the old seals, but I can also see a possibility of leaks that way. so thank you everyone, see you soon.
