Been thinking about using some of the RV rubber roof or a spray in bedliner material on my roof. I would only do a 3ft wide stripe down the center of the roof. It wouldnt be seen from the ground. I'm thinking that this would be good for grip and to help sel everything that is up there. Mainly to just keep me from falling of the roof. Has anyone done this? or what are your thoughts about it?

I would think RV rubber roofing would be as slick or slicker than your current roof.

i did my intire roof with show white rubber roofing
it sems to be good looking ....atleast i like it
and wile walking on the roof i have very little fear of slipping
i say that now....tomorrow ill post i broke a arm and leg falling off the roof.........lol

i already fell of the roof and my wife broke my fall. I'm sure if i had video of it i would have one something but now i have raised the roof so now it sits at about 12'-6''. I really don't want to have to go to the hospital and explain that i fell of my bus roof the would probably put me in the mental ward LOL  ;D

My bus has a 12 foot aluminum deck on the roof.  The roof  from front to back starting about a foot in has been coated with something very similiar to a truck bed liner.  Its light gray with a very good grit to it.  Seems to hold up very well, but I can't tell you exactly what the product is.  sorry.

There was a very similar discussion on here some time ago, and I recommended looking at non-slip products for boats; there are quite a number of very well developed marine non-slip products that work in different ways and can be applied by different methods - I suspect any one of them would do the job on your bus roof far better than trying to re-invent the wheel or adapt a product meant for something else

A shameless plug for my business - visit www.magazineexchange.co.uk for back issue magazines - thousands of titles covering cars, motorbikes, aircraft, railways, boats, modelling etc. You'll find lots of interest, although not much covering American buses sadly.

Jeremy,

Good point!

Besides the grip, the "caulking" or runoff of the surface after exposure to the sun should not be a problem with a marine product, as this would be a major issue on a water craft.

I saw a bus with sand added to the paint on the roof. Fast and cheap! Just a narrow strip down the middle where you walk. Not visable from the ground.

Jim,

Thats exactly what we used to do in the USCG on the exposed deck surfaces.

Non-Skid Surface, you may not skid, but it will remove the skin.  Ouch!
