Born in NJ living in FL most of my life but have accumulated 8 years of union carpenter's pension from mostly large metro areas of Cali & four western states. We have a lot of respect for those times. California is a unique place. Being a Florida resident, the sunshine state noted for Florida orange juice! Notice I didn't say oranges because compared to California's Naval beauties the cankered oranges of Florida can't compete in looks but can beat taste hands down the Cali forced grow crop IMHO. Nothing wrong with Cali - just too many people and too many grid locked freeways but the diversity in land geology is 2nd to none again IMO.

Have to sort of agree with Don and Dan.
I too lived in California for 60 years, Was born in Napa, CA and moved to Sacramento at 5YO. I too was a union Carpenter for 13 years and still draw a California Carpenters Pension.
The reason we moved out was to get my wife liver therapy that California did not have and her Dr and nutritionist moved from Vegas to Kansas.
Second reason was good time to do it sell out and live in the Bus again full time and we could not afford to live in California anymore. Not many Native Californians left but I am one and miss the state the weather the people who will tell you their opinion but not force it on you like we have seen in other states on the road. The water is clean there are many rivers and lake, lots of hunting and fishing and grow most of their own food in state. But alas once you leave you can't really afford to go back. By the way there is a northern California also not just Los Angeles that you see on TV. It is more farming, tomatoes wheat, rice  and all kinds of veggies and flowers. The ocean is close and the mountains are too as well as snow skiing and ocean fishing, water skiing without snakes in the water.
Its a Great state and if you have never visited or lived there  Go see for yourself you might be surprised..

I think everyone living in or going to California is under scrutiny of some kind it's the next best thing to a communist country.

Does Iraq count. Everyone I love the state of California absolutly beautiful and I have close family there that's why I went but the government doesn't make you feel very welcomed especially in a semi shoudn't have to love their government to love the state that's all I'm saying.

Here all my neighbors have dual citizenship lol I don't have neighbors left that are not from CA.Most people from CA are very nice people some are a little off the beaten path, but most: people are. I love northern CA ,the state is not business friendly, people, are overtaxed and that will cost the state, In Needle they don't even have a grocery any more both have closed, the people there buy their groceries and fuel on the AZ side of the river. I ordered Pizza from the Needles Dominos for Nikki and girls and it cost me 10% more because it was cooked. i have traded with NAPA in Needles for years now you cannot buy some items because of laws,Steve tells me buy it AZ he cannot sell it anymore ,a $10.00 deposit on a can of Freon there is no need for that.plus you need to turn the empty can in at the store you purchased it from,Steve is not going sell anymore when his stock is gone he doesn't like keeping records for the state and waiting a year for someone to pick up the empty cans .Not all of California is so beautiful it like AZ has a lot desert there is 140 miles of it from my house to Barstow of nothing else

Needles seriously. That is the hell hole of California, LOL
California Desert is not my cup of tea but a lot of people and animals seem to love it.
Someone must like the government there because they keep voting in many of the same people, LOL
As far as saying its is communistic is just plan dumb and political off the talking heads shows garbage.
At least their elections don't go on for 3 years, LOL

Dave you have good reason to defend your state and I applaud that. A lifetime of Napa Valley & Sacramento would have felt like heaven to an outsider like me coming in from the east working in hell holes like east LA and yes Needles is nothing to brag about but Joshua Tree is an awesome place. Once we got by the 5 day work week the Jeep would go into 4×4 and into gods country where the smog was a 1/2 mile below us!

Every state in the US has something special people like hell people even live in Wyoming  lol Dave Barstow is not much either,they have carved out a nice place in the desert with Plam Springs the surrounding area is not much about the same as Needles, there is really nothing in San Berdino county except the Mojave Desert.  Back in 80's Idaho was a great place to live, I liked there till all the people found out about it, I visit sometimes but would not want to live there now

My two of 6 older sisters owns a condo in Palm Springs for many years. They share it 6 months each. They play golf a lot and both had hip and knee replacements,, LOL
