This board would get boring as hell if it was all about buses and the owner knows it .Like EV's or not the charging stations at small business increases their sales by a bunch I see that in Needles at the DQ and the Telsa charging station at the truck stop with 15 new stations paid for by Telsa even the parking lot was paid for by Telsa.Man do I miss Don Smith RIP (Boxcarokie) he would make this conversion very interesting indeed and make you believe Telsa was a bus  :^

Ahhh! Good ol' Don! Regarding EV's he would probably say something like "Ev's should be recharged by wind and solar otherwise this new green thing is a lie, and I would be inclined to agree. And now so the Vegans aren't left wide eyed in the back of the room, a little rhyme to go with their reason. "Mary had a little Lamb... She ate it!

  Keep it between the mustard
  and the mayonnaise!

I'm thinking a hybrid is pretty cool. Gets great fuel mileage when running on gas and charging itself for another free run on electric
TANFL!   To produce electricity requires power, and the energy for that comes from your car's gasoline.   In other words, unless you're getting your gasoline for free you are paying to make that electricity.   Sorry!   It's probably about the same gasoline consumption as using the car's A/C, a small but not inconsequential amount.

Okay, so drop the word free. It's much better than being down with depleted batteries in a full EV.

Actually it is a bit more efficient in that it captures energy as you slow down.  That energy in a regular car goes to heat produced by the brakes... But hey nothing like a EV!!!

I have noticed my disk brakes on my Tesla rusting because they only get used if you really slam on the brakes...

Do we really need a thread slandering EVs every other week on here?  We're a bus forum, not those douches who go around ICEing out charging stations (hopefully).

If anyone on here has an electric bus, I'm certain they know how to handle winter weather appropriately.  If you don't like EVs, no one is forcing you to buy one and the owners of said EVs probably don't need or want your input.
Actually, we are being forced to buy EVs. In my state (Washington), similar to California, we are being forced to buy them by virtue of making the sale of gas powered vehicles against the law. The discussion around EVs has everything to do with buses, because they are eventually going to force us out of them. Today's gas powered cars are tomorrow's buses.

So if I go to Washington state right now, I cannot buy a gasoline-powered car?  What about gas/diesel vehicles from other states, can those be brought in?

We are going to be forced into EV's or other fuel,AZ is giving big rebates on EV's starting next year, guess how they plan on paying for it just like always raise taxes on fuel.I feel lucky living in times in the past when $50.000.00 would buy a nice 1500 sq home with a new car and pickup in the garage then a boat or camper outside. The wife stayed home and you could pay for all of that. Pay the power bills, insurance and groceries and save money making $800.00 a month, now your grocery cost you $800.00 a month yea we are living the good life now. Makes you wonder what a 18 year male would do now when he received his personal letter from a President telling you it is time to sign up for the draft, I still have mine from Ike times are changing and not for best, but life goes on sorta

For putting around town and short trips you want to do with a tow car. I see it. Maybe. I doubt the EV designers care, but if my towed EV charged itself because the wheels are turning (while being towed), that would be a neat trick....
My neighbor bought a Tesla about a year ago. It has been towed three times!! And I am not talking about behind a bus. Two times had to be towed from his house to the Tesla doctor. And he has to go with it because the tow truck guy and mechanic can't figure out how to start it without him there!. Is it Fred or RJ that has one. Can't remember. Do you have to stick your tongue to the steering wheel so it reads your DNA or what is the trick???
I guess when fission works (or is it fusion? I get them mixed up. One of them goes boom) to make all our electricity, there will also be better power pacs in cars. It will be fun to watch them go up and down the road from my window at assisted living...

If they don't have regeneration yet, it will be. CARB and Federals will start adding distance requirements, battery emission requirements, and other energy saving rules to the electric cars once established. They aren't going to relinquish power once gas powered vehicles are off the road.

In the case of Tesla just hangout at a supercharger with climate control on and play games on the display. Heck a simple wall outlet somewhere will do...
And what about the line of others who are bitching about the hog at the front doing as you say. lol
I like a thread now and then about EV and batteries. Buses do have them too and there is definately sharing and overlap ih the technology.

I agree with Fred, for the 95+% uses of getting an EV to take you where you want, it's fine. If you use your brain, then it 99+% it's fine. If you just don't pay attention and not listen or read what the display is screaming at you in red, then you should get stranded.
Technology moves so fast. When a new use case or problem needs solving, it often takes very little to formulate a software upgrade and push it to all the devices. Problem fixed.

Today, there are apps that link into the network of chargers and provide real time status of where the stations are, how many are online, how many in use, etc. Unless you are out in the boonies, driving around on low in a metro ares is not a big deal. Charging stations are everywhere and the network is growing leaps and bounds. One caveat - the public companies that are in the business of EV charging stations are having a rough go of it. I've not researched it so don't know the details. But I know as sure as I'll be dead one day, if the government is pushing it, programs will come out to make it work financially for companies to get a charger on every corner.

So what you do is, after you've got your EV you go buy a small Honda portable generator and stick that in the trunk, with a short cord so you can use it for emergency recharge. Then you go get a top shelf gas can that can seal perfectly and not let any gas smells out (Since cars no longer have trunks)(probably metal since even the best plastics let a little hydrocarbon through) and attach a bracket for that to the inside of the car so it can't move around. Probably need to anchor the generator down too. Cuts down on your storage space but just consider it to be like your spare tire. Wait... do you have a spare tire? Maybe you should get one. Along with the jack and the lug wrench and the gloves. And secure all that too. Might want to add a set of tire chains while you are at it, and a road flare and emergency reflector kit. Fire extinguisher? CB radio? Extra burner cell phone? Flare gun? Blankets? Exposure suit? Chemical hand warmers? Fire starters? Sterno?

And now you are good to go. Meanwhile...
I'll just put around in my 30 year old Samurai.

The earliest proposed ban on new sales of gas cars is 2035, twelve full years from now.  Twelve years ago in the other direction, the Nissan Leaf had literally just come out as the first mass-production EV, and look how far the tech and the market have come since then.

Let's say 2035 is coming up and you still don't trust EVs but *must* have a brand new car?  Fine, buy a gas car in 2034, that should get you at least a solid decade of good use, more if you care for it.  Let's be real here - how many of the EV-bashers on here are really concerned about being able to buy a new gas car in 2044 - 22 years from now?

Too funny Farnsworth!
I was chuckling half way through it. Jim, your mind is a scary place, but you fixed my Trail 70 throttle so you are still my hero. Hope your bus is coming together. Nine months until Nappanee. Get on it Bubba. Dan and I will swing by and pick you up. Bring tools....

CA is getting serious about EV charging I read where the state is going to spend a billion and a 1/2 charging stations. I doubt EV will ever move goods across the USA for a long.long time in the future,I think you could do it with a train on rails using the rails to supply power for charging now where is the power going to come from ,they are trying to kill solar cutting the buy back rate by 75% in CA ,the wheels on the bus go around and around lol I will set back and let you guys be the first to fly on battery powered airliners
