Thanks for the updates, especially the international perspective. Remember, CNG deployment? It is the playbook for hydrogen as I see it. Fleet and government penetration primarily due to vehicles going home every night so fueling infrastrutcture deployment is viable. Hydrogen is just the next CNG for fleets. Electric EV is the mass winner

Toyota's fuel cell electric powertrain granted zero emission executive order from CARB
April 26, 2023 0 By ANGIE BERGENSON
The executive order certifies Toyota's powertrain kit as a zero-emission powertrain.
Toyota recently announced that its new heavy-duty fuel cell electric powertrain kit has been granted a Zero Emission Powertrain (ZEP) Executive Order from the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

The kit offers a viable alternative to conventional diesel powertrains.
Toyota's heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain kit includes fuel cell stacks, hydrogen fuel storage tanks, batteries, electric motors and transmission. The kit provides a practical alternative to traditional diesel powertrains currently used in commercial goods transportation for companies seeking to transition the vehicles they use in their fleets to zero-emission trucks.

Toyota's kit being granted a ZEP Executive Order from CARB means that there is now another tool that original equipment manufactures (OEMs) and operators of heavy-duty Class 8 commercial trucks can use to help them comply with California's ever-increasing strict emissions regulations. In other words, qualifying manufactures that use the fuel cell electric powertrain kit will be eligible for incentives.

That's awesome to have an another alternative. It seems quite reasonable that fleets will evaluate and pilot fuel cells in heavy trucking and fueling locations can more easily be installed. Still very few places to do that today, just have to wait to see how it grows.
what's your take on what objective financial calculations report on initial, ongoing operational costs of hydrogen?

Can we retrofit that to those jacked up pickup truck guys who go around "Rolling Coal"?

I see some similarities to the transition from steam to diesel/electric locomotives. No reason it can't be made to work, the trick is making it economically desirable.

I saw it on the Internet. It MUST be true...

Mitsubishi Power awarded EPC contract to develop 600MW hydrogen power plant
By Edward Laity
on May 31, 2023

A consortium including Mitsubishi Power has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to develop a 600MW hydrogen-ready power plant.

The combined cycle power plant (CCPP) will be constructed for Sembcorp Industries' fully owned subsidiary Sembcorp Cogen, expected to be operational by 2026 and located at Sembcorp's anticipated multi-utilities centre on Jurong Island, Singapore.

The plant will be capable of increasing hydrogen blending percentages with minimal existing infrastructure modifications.

The consortium awarded the EPC contract includes Mitsubishi Power, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Jurong Engineering Limited (JEL).

Mitsubishi will supply a M701 JAC gas turbine, an air-cooled version of Mitsubishi Power's leading J Series gas turbine, along with the steam turbine and other main accessory equipment.

The company was also awarded a long-term service agreement for the maintenance of the plants major equipment, whilst JEL will provide the construction and Balance of Plant.

Koh Chiap Khiong, CEO of Singapore and Southeast Asia at Sembcorp, said, "The development of the new power plant will improve the performance of our power generation assets on Jurong Island and pave the way for reduction of carbon emissions through hydrogen fuel blending."

Takao Tsukui, Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Power, added, "As the energy industry evolves, it is essential that we prioritise low-carbon alternatives such as hydrogen for power generation."

Additionally, switch, industrial and passenger locomotives built in 2030 or after will be required to operate in zero-emissions configurations while in California, and in 2035 for freight line haul.
To keep OT, what will be the fuel - hydrogen? how about batteries? lol

Hydrogen cars get a boost with Toyota, Hino, Daimler Truck, Mitsubishi Fuso MoU
June 7, 2023 1 By JOHN MAX
The companies have come together in an historic Memorandum of Understanding signing.
The development of hydrogen cars just got an important shot in the arm as Toyota Motor Company, Hino Motors Ltd., Daimler Truck Holding AG, and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) recently signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The companies will be focusing on accelerating the development of advanced technologies.
Along with placing a greater focus on pooling their resources to develop technologies such as hydrogen cars, the MoU is also a part of the merging of Hino and MFTBC. First and foremost, the collaboration's goal is for carbon neutrality and to encourage a prosperous mobility society. It will be looking in particular at advancing Connected/Autonomous & Automated/Shared/Electric (CASE) technologies as well as the enhancement of the global commercial vehicle business.

The merge between Hino and MFTBC will occur under a new holding company. Within that holding company, each of the original businesses will have equal investment powers.

The nature of the MoU is designed to form and enhance commercial vehicle development, procurement and development. This could provide Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturing a boost in terms of global competition. Toyota and Daimler Truck will each be making equal investments into the new holding entity of the merged companies.

The companies will also work together on hydrogen cars and other CASE technology development.
By working on H2 development and that of other CASE technologies, they intend to boost the new company's competitiveness.

Plug Power analyst day unveilings include mobile hydrogen refueler solution
Plug Power analyst day unveilings include mobile hydrogen refueler solution
June 23, 2023 2 By TAMI HOOD

The company also announced pedestal customer and electrolyzer deals at the same time.
Plug Power's recent analyst presentation came with a list of unveilings that offer new hydrogen refueler, electrolyzer and pedestal customer deals.

This could mean considerable potential in the green energy market and to the company's growth.
Throughout the analyst day event, Plug Power's management team shared a slew of updates regarding the company's forecasts for 2030 and its growth opportunities that will help it to reach those projected targets. They placed the spotlight on the operational scale of its manufacturing facilities, but what was potentially most interesting were the announcements about new products and deals.

First out of the gate was the unveiling of its new mobile hydrogen refueler solution, called the HL 1500. That solution was described as being its own self-contained fueling station, but one that was "on wheels". That solution had a capacity of 1,500 kilograms.

The mobile hydrogen refueler is designed to shrink the cost of infrastructure, among other benefits.

Among Plug Power's other announcements included securing a 5-megawatt electrolyzer system deal with Avina Clean Hydrogen Inc. That system will provide an H2 production facility with core support for serving a southern Californian commercial mobility sector. This represents the first time an H2 production facility will be angled for use for heavy-duty trucks within that region.

Rolls-Royce is thinking about making some EVs into hydrogen cars

June 20, 2023 2 By TAMI HOOD
The company's CEO has stated that the automaker is thinking that it "might exit batteries."
Rolls-Royce is thinking about stepping away from typical battery electric vehicles in favor of hydrogen cars once H2 technology has improved enough for mainstream use at scale.

The automaker has been focused on developing battery electric vehicles as its zero-emission offering.
The latest Rolls-Royce Spectre made its way into the spotlight earlier this month at Villa d'Este in Italy for its European debut. That model is the first electric vehicle from the UK-based automaker and is expected to begin production in September. It will boast one of the largest batteries any production car has ever held, at 120kWh.The vehicle's range is said to be over 300 miles, with rapid charging at 195kW.

That said, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Rolls-Royce CEO, has said that the unique positioning of the company and the average owner's specialized use case means that it is possible to consider hydrogen cars as a technology with true potential for the future.
In a recent Autocar report, Müller-Ötvös explained that he viewed fuel cells as the way to go,..."
