Not bus related but the latest was from the trucking company I work for the middle of the pull drain on the air tank blew out and the driver had to call road service (no air) and they screwed in a 3/8 pipe plug (not even a d.o.t. approve plug) for $398.00.

A good bit of that bill was from basic service call, plus round trip miles to location, plus diagnostic time, plus the minuscule part. Good to have some kind of road breakdown policy.

Well better would be a driver with tools and a few fittings cage bolts some basic things to plug leaks and what not to get you to the next exit or shop. I used too. That would be my policy.

I remember Roadway drivers were forbidden to even  check their own oil. Union rules. Half the drivers recruited nowadays wouldnt even know where to check or what a pipe plug was.

Yeah your right beyond that I have no doubt some drivers don't know what a vise grip or screw driver even is or how to use them these days. But to me it makes common sense to have the ability to do something to get off the road not to just save money but to me it's a safety factor. Times have changed.

Forgot to itemize the bill; 5 cents for turning the screw, $99.95 for knowing which screw to turn.

For what a driver gets paid these days, why would he do anything except hold the steering wheel?

Pay me properly, and i will contribute.

Pay me crap and you get the same.

There's no romantic notions left out there.

Happy coaching!
