Any real need to use synthetic oil in Series 60?

The 11.1 you own takes the CH-4 rated oil they never used the newer classifications of the 15/40 oil. CH-4 in the engine is good for 15,000 miles ,I don't believe any synthetic oil was ever approved for the DD 11.1 L engine, the marine 11.1 uses CF 40 W there is a big difference in 11.1 compared to 12.7 when it comes to oil .be sure the jug says CJ -4 is compatible to replace the CH-4 with

Detroit Power Guard 15w40 is the "factory fill" oil for the Series 60 engines.

If you don't want to buy it at the dealer, you can pick up exactly the same oil at Walmart - Mobil Delvac 1300, which is private labeled for Detroit.

I bought some Mystik 15W-40 synthetic blend for $65 per five gallon pail.  It was on sale plus Fleet Farm had a coupon for $10 off any purchase over $50.  I am not in any hurry to change the oil.  I still need to get the Baldwin filters I normally use at Fleetpride.  They sell them to me using my employer's account so the cost is a lot less than a cash sale.

I would run as fast as I can away from Baldwin filters. There have been many instances of filter break down with Baldwins. I won't use anything Baldwin. Good Luck, TomC

Wow! Sorry to hear of the misfortune with your Baldwin experience. I once bought several Baldwin filters for our 671 at a place called Rural King. They were about $10 a piece and have been using them for years w/o issue.

We have a Rural King near us at home. They moved into former Sears location at mall two years ago. Nice competitor to our Tractor Supply.

In FL Rural King under sells Tractor Supply by a wide margin not to mention Rural Kings free pop corn!

Baldwin Filters has been around for 80+ years I never had any problems with Baldwin on my equipment
