I will go Chat to Nashville to Evansville next week as it is shortest best route. But planning my return from Evansville to stop at my mechanic shop just south of Knoxville. I 40 east from Nashville saves a bunch of miles but that stretch of road looks like lots of curves and I am guessing lots of hills. Still the way to go for me and maybe fewer Semi's on the Sunday I am coming back. But is it ugly?

Here is a map that shows the route along I40, based on your description. There is some hills, at least to us out west. Nothing dramatic but this may not show short steep grades but it does offer pretty decent resolution overall. Happy trails.

Here is link to much better detailed map

Also, look up 511 Tennesee. It'll list lots of info on road repairs etc.

Thanks gents. I took all of your advice and realized I have studied it longer than it will take me to run that leg of the trip. But it is what I do.....
I'll just get on I 40, get in the right lane and try not to piss people off.
Excited to get the bus on the road again. Just got a new grease gun with the grip and grease head. Amazing it was not invented until recently! No more trying to hold the head on the fitting and squeeze the handle with one hand. What else are we not thinking of that we can invent and get on Shark Tank. Great toy.

they need to make a compact 90 degree job with less spring tension. hard to squeeze in tight areas.

Evansville Ind? You could be going right by my house if you use I-75.

Jim
I saw it on the Internet. It MUST be true...

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I just answered your pm and now here too.
You'll be fine on I-40 from Nashville to the EDGE of Knoxville! You'll not likely have any trouble at all if you avoid the early morning and late evening rush on a Sunday!
On Sunday most of the traffic will be going west from the Gatlinburg area!
ALL bets are off for the KNOXVILLE AREA as I have breezed right on through it during rush hour and I have sat in traffic for what seemed like hours in off peak times. (kinda like Atlanta!)

I drove from knoxville on the 9th to nashville, granted in a thunderbird,  roads were good,  saw 7 entertainers and conversions, no issues, mostly 70 mph. A few 55 mph, but 18 wheelers were mostly doing 80mph...

I did Evansville to Nash to Knox this past Sunday. Bus ran great, traffic not bad even in Nashville. Saw 7 Prevost coming west as I went east to Knoxville. A few RVs and a ton of 5th wheels, but nobody tried to hit me. Did not see any vintage buses. Thanks to Busted Knuckle who gave me some scoop on that stretch via email when I was in Evansville. It helped me be confident for that stretch which I had never done. Best part was short of Knoxville I drop south on I 75 headed for home plate in N Georgia and did not have to do the run through Knoxville. I have done that stretch. You need to be wide awake when you do that.

I used to run through Atlanta at night, but the frequent shootings at night, at each other, on the freeway! have me back to daylight runs.

Ted Glad the trip went well. When went on quick trip last week for a few days to SpringField Ill to a antique and classic semi truck show. Close to a thousand miles round trip in the pickup. I-29 to highway 36 to I-72. Didn't see one converted bus. A fair amount of diesel pushers on I-29 and mostly camper trailers the rest of the way. Traffic not bad but lots of people traveling. Lots of trucks and folks at the show. One Greyhound Scenicruicer had minn plates on it at the show. That was the only bus I saw at the show.

Ted glad the trip went smooth for ya!
