I've got a Sun 7634 tach generator on my '76 8V71 in my 72 MC5B. I don't know if it's works yet. There was no tach in the panel. The wires were cut. I think it was from it's previous life. What are some options for a tachometer installation? Gotta get a signal from somewhere, right?

Thanks!

Earlier this year I replaced the bus's original Teleflex tachometer with a VDO, and it's driven off the alternator.   I do have a signal generator driven off a camshaft, but that's for something else.   I did realize however that my old alternator was dying when the new VDO tach wouldn't work right, so I also bought a Leece-Neville 160 amp replacement (a genuine made-in-USA L-N for only $140!).   Everything works well(ish) now, he says cautiously.

I have an Isspro tachometer with hour meter that runs off a gauge generator off the blower drive. Works well-once you have a tachometer, even with an automatic, you wonder how you got along without it. Good Luck, TomC

I checked into the ISSPRO system. Looks promising. I'd like to find a tach generator that will fit my adapter that the Sun generator is in. I think it is a 7/8 inch shaft with a square drive pin. Otherwise, I'll use the bolt on magnets and proximity sensor system.
