This is a question of preference for folks like Clifford, not calling any names, of course.

I am doing a total brake job on the coach. It has Knorr Bremse SB7 calipers on the front, and Prevost style rotors. I have the part numbers. The question is, is there a preferred brand of pad or rotor? I can see Bendix and Meritor parts. But also all kinds of aftermarket suppliers. Just calling on the voices of experience for what works and doesn't work.

The drive is rather straight forward Bendix 16.5 drums and S+ cam brakes.

Tag is Meritor 1560 ADB.

I have everything off, and I am not very interesting in turning the rotors or drums.

Buy the Knorr pads from Prevost,Bendix would be good also since they own Knorr now

A few years ago a service mgr.at a local gm dealership told me that unless you were having bad break symptoms like pulsating petal don't turn rotor or drums.Just replace the pads.This was on my 1 ton dually and I haven't turned a rotor since(none of my vehicles have drums anymore) Don't know if this is applicable to our busses or not.

there are specs for depth of scoring and rotor runout. If meets it, no need to replace. I don't waste time cutting rotors or drums anymore on cars and trucks. They charge too much for the work. The rotors get rust build up where the pads don't touch. Really wears cutting bits going through it. And cutting rotors to clean up thins them and causes warping easier. There are specs for commercial vehicles also. Marked on rotors and drums- min. thickness and maximum diameter.

I would assume on air brakes there would be no "feel" of any kind of pulsing as on hydraulic systems?

probably feel through suspension if bad enough. If runout meets specs, shouldn't be an issue.

cheeze - what pisses me off to no end that the economics are so screwed up that it is so cheap bring rotors here from China that it makes no sense to pay (a lot more) to get a rotor turned locally. Such a waste of energy to make a new one, ship it here...
And rotors can get turned at least once unless really messed up and work fine.
