Anyone run 11.00 tires instead of 12.00 tires on MC9/12?

As with any tire size change, you MUST weigh your bus fully loaded to see if you can run smaller tires. 11R-22.5 16ply are very close to 12R-22.5 load carrying. Good Luck, TomC

Check out the 295/80/22.5 tires for the MCI,the 11r being inch narrow than the 12r makes a difference on the steer BTDT

You have Cat scales or similar nearby? Check all four wheel positions.

I should make my question a little clearer.

I have the chance to pick up some 1 year old Michelin XDN2 11.00r22.5 tires. Funny thing is an 11.00 tire (XDN2) is almost an inch wider than the 12.00 tires on my bus!

I see the weight rating is considerably less ( 6175 vs 7390 single) but at an estimated finished weight of 33,000 lbs I would think it should handle it. 2400 lbs difference on drive and 800 on tag less (approximately). Just wanted to find out if anyone had ever tried it before.

BTW, if you were to look strictly at the numbers (with a small allowance for side to side imbalance) most steer axle tires are right at or slightly under limit for a 12,000 steer axle on a truck.

I went looking at the 4 MC9s and the DL3 on our place today. They all are on 315/80R22.5 tires. My MC5 is on 11R24.5s, but it is a lighter bus of course.

I ended up passing on the use of those nice tires. Just have to bite the bullet and find some of those surplus 12.00 tires people are talking about.

Michelin still lists that tire in an XZE.

Tires are still available in 12R22.5 size. I just installed new Firestone on my bus, and there were many other options in name-brand tires.

Surely there are. But none at the bargain basement (turn around while I borrow these) prices like those other ones. Free is not worth the money if they will not work!

What 'surplus' tires are you talking about?

They sell commercial tires on Amazon, believe it or not. I didn't see any 12 size, but plenty of 11's.
