tires near Bristol TN/VA

I need one 315/80r 22.5 for the tag axle and I am in Bristol TN.
Used or recap not a problem...new if priced right.
Any suggestions?

         Try a truck tire shop.  Sometimes they have used tires.  That is what I did a few years ago.

Find a charter bus company. They may have a used tire they'll sell you in your size. Doubt a truck tire shop will have that size.

Too bad you're not closer to me up here in Wisconsin - I'm about to have 7 of them taken off my bus. Lots of tread, but nine years old.

Don't think that we didn't consider that. I could probably go another year on them, maybe two. But, there's no way to know when they'll fail. If I had the tires since new and knew the history of them I'd feel better about pushing things, but I don't know if they took any abuse before I got the bus.

Also, they are not the ideal tire for our bus and present a few problems. The most problematic is that the front tires rub on the air bag mounting plates when the wheels are turned to full stops. Also a real bugger to get the spare in/out, since the mounted tire is too wide for the compartment height.

I also thought about switching out only the fronts, but my OCD just isn't happy with that plan.

I'll have to admit in the past we run some really old carcasses. Heck we didn't graduate to radials until 6-7 years ago! We ran really old bias nylons but the newest were always on the front - as is still the case with the steel belt radials. We've experienced a few rear blowouts (never the front) through over 3 decades with the older bias tires but never bothered how the bus handled - just shouldered it when it was convenient & did the tire change. Haven't had any tire failure since running radials which range in date codes from 3 to 7 years old. We have never & probably will never buy a whole set of tires. We always run the newer on the front & buy on an "as needed" basis. Pinching a nickel - I'd like to say in retirement but always have...

Adjust the stop so it doesn't rub.

Can't just adjust the stop. Would have to adjust the hydraulic cut off as well, as the system is designed to use the physical stops only as a backup to the hydraulic settings.

Two reasons I won't do this...

It would limit the turning radius, and

It would mean futzing with a system that is working properly at the moment. I have a theory that it's best to leave sleeping dogs lay.

Besides, as others have said the proper size tires will make for better handling, traction, and stopping (especially in rain/snow.)
