Hey all, I'm doing some plotting ahead for my bus project and one of my big head-scratchers at the moment is air conditioning.  At present I've got two old roof air conditioners which are both ugly and, more importantly, jut down from an already low roof enough that I can walk into them if I don't remember to duck.  Knew I'd have to do something about it when I bought the thing.

So far, my ideas are as follows:

Mini-split, at least in the front - I can tolerate the rear roof air if need be, and I'm not certain I have enough vented spaces to house my propane, a generator, and two mini-split condensers without opening up more space in another bay.

Basement air - takes up a lot of space both in footprint and in ducting, less efficient than the minis as well and the ones I've seen so far want 240v, not cheap.

Low profile roof - has anyone seen or modified a roof air to sit flush to the ceiling?  Not sure if this is possible or worthwhile, thinking I might partially take apart one of mine just to see what's doable someday soon.

What are your thoughts and experiences?  Those of you already running mini-splits, how many BTUs are you running, are you happy with it, and what kind of heat load are you dealing with at the condenser if it's mounted in a bay?  Has anyone tried running two minis off of a 3k or 4k generator?

Rob,

Here is a link to Gordies 4104 conversion Blog. He discussed setting up a mini split ac
system in his coach

Maybe you will find some answers there.

Put one over the bed and the other one over the table?

I saw it on the Internet. It MUST be true...

Saw one guy create a raised box on the roof to mount the A/C on, then the inside deflector was flush with the ceiling. But-not very good looking. Good Luck, TomC

You can do like the last owner did on my 06, raise the whole roof 6 inches.

I thought roof raises were nigh-impossible on GMCs?  Would definitely like to know more about that.

Looks like Gordie did very similar to what I was thinking, though I'm not sure where his generator wound up (if he has one?).
