Hi there,
can someone recommend a business that can repair 8V71 if the engine has issues around Sacramento, CA?
What would a engine rebuilt or repair cost (for a head gasket or a broken head or any other major mechanical failure)?
Where would I find a replacement engine?

Same for a (manual) transmission or a water pump.
Just trying to figure what something like this would cost me..

Also, I got some (6) new (!) (Peninsula) sliding windows for a PD4905/4903.
They are the really dark ones with separate mosquito screen.
I would like to sell those if someone is interested. They are still in their original shipping crate and just never got installed.
I will probably add another thread here for those later.

Thanks,
Matt

Can you shoot me a few photos of the windows and/or more details in a PM? I might have interest, assuming that the side windows from a 4905 will fit into a 4108.

Check Motion industries for info on window fit. I seem to recall that early 4903 and 4107 models had a little shorter in height side windows.

I'm sure there are competent 2 stroke diesel shops in Sac. I've been by the following shop and they seem on the ball. Not had any work done by them as yet. Dave would certainly be able to help with a 8v71.

    Matt,

If your Peninsula windows won't fit Richard's 4108, I'd be a very interested buyer. I know they'll fit my 4905.

    Matt,

I would also be interested in the 4905 windows.

Since neither WildBob nor I have 6 windows in our bus, we can probably take care of them!

If they work out for me (and I think they will) I'm interested in just two of them to replace the two factory sliders we have.

These guys are not cheap but do repowers and rebuilds on DD 2 strokes for RV buses etc. Sometimes it helps to go in and talk to them directly.

I actually still have all 8 original windows in my bus, but I only want to replace 4 of them. 🙂

Call Greg at (916) 616-5078‬. He is a great 2-stroke mechanic and runs a service shop, so he can only do part-time work but he knows a guy in the Bay Area who can do full rebuilds.

I have a 4905 and I am in Sacramento. I would be interested in buying the windows off of you.

    Richard,

I am curious to see if your 4108 windows are the same as the 4905. Can't see how GM could fit the same 4 windows from a 40' bus onto a 35' bus, but maybe they did. Are you in a position to measure yours? I measured mine along the lower edge, including the frame and come up with 67.5". Height 26", not counting the gasket on either measurement.

This all may be moot now that there is a local 4905 owner in the mix. Matt may prefer not to mess with shipping them.

The parts book shows a different part number for the glass in a 4905 and a 4108, so you may be correct. My windows (with frame) are just shy of 26" high, but only 64" from side to side.

That said, until Matt measures we really won't know. Sounds like until then there is somewhat of a mystery exactly which bus they'll fit since from some of the comments there might be a variety of window sizes used even on the same model.

Sorry. Just haven't had any time to get them out of the box and measure them...

    The experience drain is stunning.

If someone told me 20 years ago, that a thread like this about GM window sizes matching or not would go on for this length of time unresolved, i'd have never believed it.

Amazing the loss of knowledge, when there was nothing about GM that was unknown by busnuts.

Write stuff down, busnuts, make folders of posts, cuz it ain't gonna last like we hope!

    Happy coaching!

I'm counting on the mass volume of past discussions, finding the topic of interest by typing some keywords and clicking the search button. Works better than me writing something down on paper and forgetting or losing it. lol
