The tall covers for Jakes are not symmetrical - one side is has slightly different angles than the other.

If you look at the pictures about 3/4 the way down, you can get a great view of the tall covers. Even though this is an 8v-71 they are the same, just shorter. When you locate a set make sure breather locations will work. This article is good reading too.

Good point on the breather locations. DD did make filler plates for the breather holes - they can be used to close off any holes that you don't need or that are in the wrong place. If you're lucky you won't need them, but if you hunt around you should be able to find a shop with some filler plates/gaskets. I had to do that on one of the valve covers going on our 8V71 soon.

You don't want to pay retail price for them. They are costly. Watch Ebay or maybe Cliff has some. I thought he did at one time.

Try calling Central Truck Service in Minneapolis MN. That's where I found most of my Jake parts. You can also try C&J Bus Service in Minneapolis MN.

If my memory is correct, Central Truck sells used engine parts. They were able to put together a nearly complete Jake setup for my 8V71 last year.

Thanks for giving me the referral to central truck.  They think they have everything I need.  We also talked about a possible overhaul and they said they do a bunch of 2 stroke diesels each year and are very familiar with the engine.  So perhaps if I do an overhaul that might be a good option.

Glad it worked out. They were quite helpful for me. If there is anything they don't have, be sure to ask for suggestions from them where to get it - they seem to have a pretty tight network of related shops.
