Good afternoon all,

For those of you with the factory OTR or have worked on them, do you know if you can spray them with a garden hose while in the compartment? There are drains on both sides of the coils for the condensation to drain.

My filter was non-existent from the previous owner so I've been cleaning the coils with a brush and I know it's not nearly as it could be compared to if I could wash them.

And yes I got new filter material to put back in the removable screen

I cleaned ours with soapy water made with Dawn and a soft bristle brush, being very careful to avoid bending the fins. Rinsed with a gentle flow of water.

There are cleaners made specifically for cleaning household a/c coils, and I bet that would work here. Just be sure to use one that is safe for copper and aluminum. I'd spray it down with the cleaner, let it soak for a while, and then gently rinse it off.

Since the is some pretty soft metal involved in these things I'd avoid any high pressure or direct hard spray.

Yes, get in there with the garden hose.

Every bus conversion would benefit to have the HVAC cavity rinsed out A LOT.

Much fresher smelling afterwards.

Walls, ceiling, fins, floor... start with the drains, get those rubber gaspers cleaned out, and work backwards from there.

If the gaspers are torn or missing, replace them, the critters, crawling, scampering and flying will find that entry point to make a home...

happy coaching!

HVAC component supplier/ dealers sell a coil cleaner specifically for this job. Comes in gallon jugs. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after use to neutralize fluid.
