R&M adjustors

  Does anybody know what or whose headlight adjustors R&M  used on 4106 headlight panels?  Mine are all rusted also the springs. I can't find them anywhere. olebusman

Check with a body hardware catalog, maybe Napa or a friendly old body shop.

Some of my bus's adjusters were corroded (but not as badly as yours!) or stripped out, so I bought all new stainless bolts, springs and nuts from my local friendly hardware store, and rebuilt them so they can never again seize up or get corroded like before.   Not a difficult job, and now it's easy to accurately adjust the low- and high-beam headlights to Daniel Stern's recommendations.   I get VERY grumpy when other drivers' headlights dazzle me, so I take great care to adjust mine correctly.

Geez, that ain't rust, you can still readily see the threads....

That stuff should still move with judicious use of your favorite weasel piss.

When you upgrade the parts, regardless of material of manufacture, get them lubed with a dab of anti-seize, once adjusted, it will be many years before you touch 'em again...

   buswarrior, that picture is of a unbroken adjustor. Others are busted and I would like to replace all and be done one time. Yes in hind site I should have put anti seize on them and surely will this time. Still haven't found exact replacements if anyone else has any more ideas.  olebusman

Trouble is that the stand the adjuster threads into is old brittle plastic. Corrosion in threads out of sight can seize it in place. Soon as you try to turn it, the plastic distenegrates. He may get lucky with plenty of penetrant. Better to spend the few bucks for new stands and screws. Thinking outside the box, you could carefully make square holes directly under screw heads and go with the common newer snap in adjusters.

 I've looked at the early chevs adjustors. I think the mounting holes are closer together. the kits show a different spring, although I remember the springs as the mopar and gm with a screw in the center like mine. I think i'll have my friendly parts store order in a early gm/corvette adjustor  to check out. Thanks for the replies. Hope I can come up with something. chessie I would make holes for the more readily available adjustors but the fiberglass dip for the bucket is in the way.  I'm still trying  olebusman

I can relate - I once went into a chain parts store for standard rectangular headlights to fit the quad setup on our 4106. They made these things for years, and there were two choices: hi beam or low beam.

The kid behind the counter insisted that he had to have make & model to look it up on the computer. He refused to go look on the shelf for the headlights. Unbelievable that he didn't know where they kept headlights.
