hi guys and gals

It looks like it is time to replace my old aqua hot system
(aqua hot ahe 100- 102s )
as there is a lot of rust coming out the hot water tap and I have had problems in the past with the unit .

I am looking at a oasis combi unit and would like to know it there are any problems with it ? from people that have one now

I like it better the Pro/Heat burner is low pressure fuel and doesn't give the problems a Webasto does, made in Canada with great tech support,it doesn't have the stainless housing though if you are into stainless

I have not used mine yet, will be using it this winter. It looks like a nice unit. It was easy to hook up. I got mine in stainless about 2 years ago.

stainless is great ! but not needed inside the bay compartment

I was told the same thing from the rep near me about the combi and had a pro heat on the M C I and never had any problems with it in 10 years

I have 1 last thing to try on the old unit . There is a old 2 gal. expansion air tank right before the boiler cold water feed  that might be the source of the rust ?
I just got a new one to see if that will stop the rust . The other problem is the ignition coil only works sometimes ?  is there a cheaper place to find one other then aqua hot ?

or a similar replacement that will work

as a replacement unit the 2 choices I have are

oasis combi       $ 4999.00 and a lot of work !

or

pro heat x45      $ 2500.00 + $500.00   for a boat 120 volt / heat exchange water heater    plus a lot of work !

any ideas ?

thanks   dave

You might be on the right track re rust in the expansion tank...

Absolutely every one I have ever dealt with was a giant mass of rust inside, at the end of their useful lives.

Good luck, it would be nice to avoid the capital outlay for system replacement.

call the local school bus operator and ask 'em where they are getting the ignition coils for their Webasto?

Like the burner nozzle, I wonder if there's a stock home heating alternative that is not price inflated?

If it wasn't for carrying 2 types fuel I prefer the propane fired boiler systems,I loved my Primus quite ,no smoke and very little up keep

Call John at heat my RV he is a standup guy. I have seen the coils John has built and they are solid. That is where I bought my Oasis. He has forgotten more than most people know about heating you conversion with water.

propane hot water boiler ? yes that would be nice

I can get a Viesmann boiler at 98 % efficient rating with pvc exhaust pipe for a lot less then any rv stuff and you will not get the noise or smell

but TONS of work !

I have a Hurricane system in my bus,  they are made for boats.  I think they are related to the oasis. It runs great keeping the hot water hot, and the interior as warm as you want.

last night I removed the 2 gal air expansion tank and found that is the cause of the RUST !
replaced it with a new one and flushed the system with 75 gal. of clean water and now the hot tap water is clear .
so it looks like I can still use the aqua hot as my heat and hot water boiler . I do need to find a replacement ignition coil

thanks for all the replies and kind of sad that I am not getting the combi as it looks like a good replacement unit

but look at the fuel I can buy with all the money I saved

From that link you posted it looks like you are in need of a coil with two leads is that correct? And from your comments I take it you need them to fire from both towers at the same time.

If this is so then you are in luck because just about any coil from an engine that uses the "wasted spark" type of ignition satisfies those requirements. Probably the coil in your link does too.

For them to fire independently there would need to be 3 low voltage leads. Ground, right, and left. If there are only two it will fire both at once. One tower is the HV+ and the other is the HV- terminal so typically they are wired to fire across the plugs to a common ground thereby completing the circuit.

Look for any engine that has exactly 1/2 as many coil packs as it has cylinders. Those coils should do the trick. V6 Buick comes to mind, as a compact, not ugly, and powerful coil.

I saw it on the Internet. It MUST be true...

A Harley Davidson coil has double spark outputs timed together, (wasted spark on the bike).  Cheap on eBay.
