     That's the thing about a real inverter unit, Tom.  They're programmed to soft start in a way that the starting surge is pretty much undetectable; also, "throttling down" and fan reduction programming reduces power draw..  I haven't looked closely at the spec's on Dave's unit but my first look tells me that it looks good.
