Window screens

After a few false starts on making screens for the two OEM sliding windows on our 4108, I believe that we've finally come up with a plan that will work.

I've sewn a piece of 5/8" foam backer rod into a pocket along three sides of a piece of nylon window screen. This will hold the screen in place by friction fit into the channel left by the open window. The remaining side will have Velcro sewn to it which will mate with a piece of Velcro stuck to the edge of the open window.

Not fancy. Not a long-term solution. But, with the nights around here getting to the perfect temps for sleeping with windows open I just had to do something until a more permanent solution can be found.

Looks permanent enough for busnut duty!

Yours are readily replaced at economical price, won't be an "obsolete model", the manufacturer won't go out of business, won't be ruined by marauding tree branches, etc...

Manufactured windows and screens are not necessary, when you're handy!

Sounds like your window screen system is flexible which we thought was ingenious!
Our 4104 window screens we designed back in the early 80s & still serving us well were a similar shape but ridged in design.
As pictured, the tight screen is sandwiched (glued) between two thin frames of 1/8" tempered hardboard.
They fit into the window track & the window slides over the frame.
We have eight total, 4 + 4 for front & back section of slider as they are different in shape.

you mentioned when the ambient is comfortable we have all the sliders bug free open + the three roof vents.
It feels like camping in a hard tent! We love them. Thought we share that - we like your "flexible design".

The temporary screens we used were easily available at the local big fabric shop.  They had many colors and textures of common see through curtain material.  Heavy Duty double sided tape attached the fabric to the perimeters of the window frames.  Worked quite well.  The curtain material or fabric was applied somewhat loosely so it would bellow either out or in.

Lookin' good, the most important part is keeping the pesky bugs on the other side!
