What about one of the keypad units that are still used on Ford and Lincoln cars? There must be a way to mount them safely and get them to interface with your system. Should be pretty easy to get one of these for nearly nothing at a junk yard.

Already got the Chinese unit on order.

My doorlock runs on 12v so I'm figuring to put a 12v power pack with the keyswitch and a momentary pushbutton to power everything. While the button is pressed, power gets to the keyswitch and then the door lock. For power for that, 8-10 AA lithium batteries would work. 20 year shelf life and only used when I forget my key.
