Ours is registered in Texas as a motor home.

We tried to register ours as "motorhome" in Alberta, but their computers demanded a second valid VIN for the house part. You can get one assigned for the price of a full inspection by a licensed RV technician, which created a chicken and egg problem. (Leaving it as a "bus" would have required commercial registration. Yikes)!

After a call to Edmonton for clarification, they issued a private registration in the "utility" class, same as an SUV. Conversion has been the never-ending project, so ever since, we have been driving a very large SUV.

what do you tell them it is a bus or camper motorhome. I live in texas I do not want to say a commercial bus

Unless you are using it for commercial purposes, you would not register it as a commercial bus.  If it is unconverted, it would be a non commercial vehicle or a private use vehicle.  Once converted, if not done so already, you would have to meet the state requirements and have it re-inspected before registering it as an rv or motorhome.

I can't confirm, but I have been told that registering it as a commercial bus means that you need to meet all of the DOT requirements and inspections.
